With just a couple of short weeks until developer The Coalition’s Gears of War 4 hits store shelves, a new 20 minute gameplay video has been released online. We’ve seen some gameplay demos in the past, but in this new video the opening prologue level is played through.
The prologue is set two years before Emergence Day, or E-Day, the massive planet-wide attack on the major cities of the planet Sera committed by the Locust Horde. The original Gears of War was set 14 years after E-Day happened.
You can watch the opening level of Gears of War 4 below.
Here’s more from The Coalition community manager Liam Ashley on Xbox Wire:
Gears of War has a history of iconic campaign openings, from the prison break in the first Gears of War to Marcus’ nightmare flashback in Gears of War 3, and Gears of War 4 is no different. Today, we’re excited to share the first gameplay of the epic opening to Gears 4’s campaign known as Prologue.
Dropping players straight into the action at the opening of the game, Prologue immerses you in a series of pivotal moments from the Gears of War universe never before seen in a Gears videogame – including Emergence Day and a key battle from the Pendulum Wars.
After a brief introduction by The Coalition’s Studio Head Rod Fergusson and Lead Campaign Designer Matt Searcy, our uncut gameplay of Prologue will have you joining the fight across three decades of Gears history: the COG’s raid on UIR forces to secure the Hammer of Dawn technology at Aspho Fields, Emergence Day at the House of Sovereigns, and the Locust’s siege of Anvil Gate.
Join The Coalition’s Rod Fergusson and Matt Searcy for the opening Prologue for Gears of War 4 and play through the first 20 minutes of the game. Revisit the Sera of Gears past and learn more about the Sera of today, 25 years later.
Gears of War 4 is available worldwide October 11 on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC as an Xbox Play Anywhere title. Buy Gears of War 4: Ultimate Edition and play four days early, starting October 7.
