I remember working at my desk on the day that the Boston Marathon bombings occurred, and all anyone could do is look to the internet and social media to see what was happening.
Now we get to at least see a dramatized version of that day in Peter Berg‘s Patriots Day, starring Mark Wahlberg, J.K. Simmons, John Goodman, Kevin Bacon, and Michelle Monaghan. The first trailer for the movie has been released, and you can check it out below.
Wahlberg plays Tommy Saunders, one of the police officers on duty that fateful day. The trailer kicks off with a very down to earth moment between Tommy and his wife, Carol (Monaghan), as he is jokingly unhappy at the crossing guard vest he has to wear on this day. But he gets to be one of those courageous as he joins fellow responders to help rescue victims of the blasts.
Now we are not going to spill out the entire details of the trailer, as it pretty much speaks for itself as we get to see the reactions of everyone involved as they help rescue, cope, and understand the situation at hand. But it should be noted that Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor are working on the music for the film. The two collaborators have conducted the scores for The Social Network, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and Gone Girl, so it should be interesting to see how they interpret this day through music.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
In the aftermath of an unspeakable attack, Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg) joins courageous survivors, first responders and investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the bombers before they strike again. Weaving together the stories of Special Agent Richard Deslauriers (Kevin Bacon), Police Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman), Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese (J.K. Simmons) and nurse Carol Saunders (Michelle Monaghan) this visceral and unflinching chronicle captures the suspense of one of the most sophisticated manhunts in law enforcement history and celebrates the strength of the people of Boston.
Written by Peter Berg, Matt Cook, Paul Tamasy, and Eric Johnson, Patriots Day gets an award’s friendly release date as it opens on December 21, 2016.
