After the release of eight Harry Potter films, Warner Bros. and J.K. Rowling are now venturing into the wizardry world of spinoff sequels. Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them centers on Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), a magizoologist arriving in mid-1920s New York for a brief stop after documenting fantastic beasts around the globe. However, a no-maj (the American version of a muggle) accidentally lets the beasts loose. The studio just held a global fan event where attendees got to see a sneak peek of the upcoming film. But that wasn’t the only surprise. News broke that there will be a total of five Fantastic Beast films that will be released in the future.

Here’s the official Tweet confirming the news:
It seemed very unlikely that Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them would be a one-off kind of film. Certainly, the material used to make the textbook at Hogwarts would account for many more adventures, and the tweet confirming that there will be four more sequels seems to indicate that there is so much more to cover. Of course, the film has already has a built in fanbase, which will likely increase depending on the success of this first spinoff.
I’m not the biggest Harry Potter fan, but I respect how the material is a global unifier. However, there is something about Fantastic Beasts that appeals to me. Maybe its the fact that it isn’t an adaptation of any of J.K. Rowling’s books, even though she wrote the screenplay for the film. Maybe it’s the fact that it takes place in 1920s New York. Whatever it is, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them looks really cool, and WB confirming that there will be four sequels to follow shows how much confidence they have in one film that has yet to hit theaters.
And just in case you missed all the excitement from the fan global event, we got the video embed below.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:
There are growing dangers in the wizarding world of 1926 New York. Something mysterious is leaving a path of destruction in the streets, threatening to expose the wizarding community to the Second Salemers, a fanatical faction of No-Majs (American for Muggles) bent on eradicating them. And the powerful, dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, after wreaking havoc in Europe, has slipped away”¦and is now nowhere to be found.Unaware of the rising tensions, Newt Scamander arrives in the city nearing the end of a global excursion to research and rescue magical creatures, some of which are safeguarded in the hidden dimensions of his deceptively nondescript leather case. But potential disaster strikes when unsuspecting No-Maj Jacob Kowalski inadvertently lets some of Newt’s beasts loose in a city already on edge””a serious breach of the Statute of Secrecy that former Auror Tina Goldstein jumps on, seeing her chance to regain her post. However, things take an ominous turn when Percival Graves, the enigmatic Director of Magical Security at MACUSA (Magical Congress of the USA), casts his suspicions on both Newt”¦and Tina.
Now allied, Newt and Tina, together with Tina’s sister, Queenie, and their new No-Maj friend, Jacob, form a band of unlikely heroes, who must recover Newt’s missing beasts before they come to harm. But the stakes are higher than these four outsiders””now branded fugitives””ever imagined, as their mission puts them on a collision course with dark forces that could push the wizarding and No-Maj worlds to the brink of war.
