An official premiere date has been revealed for the long-awaited fourth season of Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the title character. It’s been nearly three years now since season three ended, with a special single episode airing earlier this year.
An image and updated version of the teaser trailer we saw come out of San Diego Comic-Con 2016 have been released with the premiere date included. Those can be found below.
The titles of the first two episodes of the new season were announced last month, with the third being kept a secret at the moment. The first episode is titled “The Six Thatchers,” with the second called “The Lying Detective.” If “Thatchers” sounds familiar, it might just be because during their time at Comic-Con, this teaser tweet was also shared:
To take it a step further, the fake blog of Dr. John H. Watson (played on the show, but probably not on the blog, by Martin Freeman) published something back in December also titled “The Six Thatchers.” You can read that right here if curious, though it’s unclear how much of that blog post will be part of the episode if at all. Still, you may want to avoid if worried about spoilers. Or perhaps all of that was just to toy with people and it will be something else entirely!
Sherlock season four kicks off on January 1, 2017.
