When if comes to AMC’s The Walking Dead and HBO’s Game of Thrones, death is just a normal part of everyday life. Simply put the shows kill off lots and lots and lots of people, living and undead.
Knowing this, Reddit user nachorykaart decided to really dive into just how many deaths have happened on the two series. They went back and counted all of the deaths that have occurred, and broke it down into categories: Main Character Deaths, Side Character Deaths, Background Character Deaths, Non-Human Character Deaths, and finally Total Character Deaths and Death Percentages.
Which show do you think has more deaths? Find out in the infographic below!
It’s important to note that this infographic’s numbers come from only seasons one through five of the two shows. This is because The Walking Dead has one season on Thrones, currently in the middle of its seventh season. It is interesting, however, that they didn’t include season six of the two shows. I’m sure there was a reason for this, but it’s unknown what that is. I doubt the difference would be significant, just some bigger numbers on both sides. Though that Game of Thrones season six finale surely would have boosted the stats!
Also worth noting is that deaths counted were visible or were heavily implied. This means the full carnage of massive battles on Thrones didn’t register as much as they could have. It also means that a brutal fight like the Battle of the Bastards wasn’t part of the equation at all, as it was part of season six.
Looking at these numbers, there’s nothing too surprising. Considering how many zombies are killed on TWD, you had to expect big totals. Clearly White Walkers are harder to take out than regular walkers. But some of Thrones‘ numbers are a bit of a surprise. With full battles taken into account, who knows.
