Nicolas Winding Refn and Elle Fanning On The Set Of The Neon Demon

Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn, known for making movies like the Pusher trilogy, Bronson, Valhalla Rising, Drive, Only God Forgives, and most recently The Neon Demon, has found a home for his TV series Too Old to Die Young.

Amazon has made a straight to series order for the show, with 10 episodes on the way to start. Refn will take on writing, directing, and producing duties. But he will have a little help that will be of great interest to comic book readers. Six time Eisner Award winning comics writer Ed Brubaker will be co-writing the series with Refn, and also serves as an executive producer. It’s the second project of Refn’s to land at Amazon, after they acquired the distribution rights for Neon Demon here in the States.

Too Old to Die Young is a crime thriller, which is said to be similar to Refn’s Pusher trilogy. The show deals with the criminal underbelly of Los Angeles, while exploring “various characters’ existential journeys from being killers to becoming samurai’s in the city of angels.”

No stars are attached to the project yet, but the report does say that multiple notable actors have been made offers with no deals locked in just yet.

While Brubaker is best known for his work in comics, he was a supervising producer on the recent HBO hit Westworld, and directed the episode titled “Dissonance Theory.” His comic book credits include work on superhero titles like Batman, Daredevil, Captain America, Catwoman, and Uncanny X-Men, though he has also worked on crime related titles such as Criminal: The Last of the Innocent, The Fade Out, and Sandman Presents: Dead Boy Detectives.

Too Old to Die Young doesn’t have a release window just yet, but the show is currently aiming to begin filming later this year in the fall.
