Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for King Arthur: Legend of the Sword starring Charlie Hunnam as the legendary King Arthur. Directed by Guy Ritchie, the film centers on the title character’s rise to become the rightful king and overthrow the villainous Vortigern (Jude Law) who rules with an iron fist.
While we can expect to see a few respectful nods to the source material, Ritchie makes sure that you are watching a King Arthur movie unlike any other. Check out the full trailer here below.
Ritchie has an eye for making the source material look very cool and stylish. The trailer shows that the film will have all of Ritchie’s signature for style and sleek. In fact, that is putting it very mildly. There is so much batsh*t crazy stuff going on, it looks like the film could be a lot of fun to watch. Certainly, a much better attempt at the character or fantasy genre than we have seen before. One thing is for sure, this isn’t your elementary school’s King Arthur, this is something that looks like it could be fun to watch on the big screen.
The film also stars Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Djimon Hounsou, Aidan Gillen, and Eric Bana.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
Acclaimed filmmaker Guy Ritchie brings his dynamic style to the epic fantasy action adventure “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.” Starring Charlie Hunnam in the title role, the film is an iconoclastic take on the classic Excalibur myth, tracing Arthur’s journey from the streets to the throne. When the child Arthur’s father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur’s uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy”¦whether he likes it or not.
Written by Joby Harold, Guy Ritchie, and Lionel Wigram,King Arthur: Legend of the Sword opens in theaters on May 12, 2017.
