A first look has been revealed of Orlando Jones as Mr. Nancy on the upcoming Starz television series American Gods, based on the 2001 best-selling novel by Neil Gaiman.
Check out the image here below of Jones (Sleepy Hollow) as Mr. Nancy, aka Anansi, the African trickster spider/man god.
Vanity Fair debuted the new image of the character, who is a major part of Gaiman’s book and inspired its 2005 spin-off novel Anansi Boys.
Here’s what Jones told VF about a possible spin-off TV show:
All I know for sure is that when [American Gods showrunners] Michael [Green] and Bryan [Fuller] had called me and asked me about playing the character and walked me through what they were thinking, part of the discussion at that time was Anansi Boys, and that they wanted to spin it off and pursue that character. As you know, the first season is really about setting up the world of American Gods and introducing you to all the wonderful characters. If there is a spin-off of any kind, I’d love to do it. I love this character. I love these writers. I’ve been fortunate that this is one of the most exciting and incredible experiences I’ve been able to do as an actor, and I’ll continue for as long as I possibly can.
Along with using material from the American Gods novel, the TV series will also use notes about characters and stories from Gaiman — who serves as executive producer on the show — that did not make it into the final cut of his book.
American Gods, which debuts on Starz on April 30, 2017, stars Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon, Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday, Emily Browning as Laura Moon, Crispin Glover as Mr. World, Cloris Leachman as Zorya Vechernyaya, Gillian Anderson as Media, Orlando Jones as Mr. Nancy, Kristin Chenoweth as Easter, and many more!
