Baby Driver, the latest film from writer/director Edgar Wright ((Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, The World’s End), had its world premiere on Saturday night in Austin, TX, at this year’s SXSW. Now, Sony has released the domestic and international trailers for the upcoming film, which you can watch here below.
For those unfamiliar with the film, Baby Driver centers on the title character, played by Ansel Elgort, a getaway driver with a condition that leaves him with ringing in his ears. He uses his own personal soundtrack to help him in his escapes. But when he falls in love with a young waitress (Lily James) he wants out of his profession, but is asked to go on one last job by his boss (Kevin Spacey). However, it is not as easy as it sounds, and soon he becomes the target of his boss and his crew.
But if you are looking for something a little different, maybe with a little exposition, the international trailer below may be to your liking. It has more dialogue and character interaction, which gives us a little more context and reason for Baby’s motivation to leave the job.
Wright has said that certain scenes would be synced to a selection of music, and if anyone knows music, it’s him. But unlike his previous directing efforts, which had more of a comedic slant, Baby Driver looks like it’s more of an actioner. Sure there are comedic moments to lighten the film, especially at the end of the trailer when the guy responsible for getting the masks took buying Halloween Mike Myers masks a little too literally.
Baby Driver stars Ansel Elgort, Kevin Spacey, Lily James, Jon Bernthal, Eiza Gonzalez, Jon Hamm, and Jamie Foxx.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
A talented, young getaway driver (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. But after being coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.
Baby Driver will open in theaters on August 11, 2017.
