Last time on Supernatural, Sam and Dean (Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles) went vampire hunting – Sam with Mary (Samantha Smith), and Dean with Ketch (one of the British Men of Letters). It was a trick though, because only one vamp was there, while the real attack by the alpha (The Magicians’ Rick Worthy) was aimed at the Men of Letters hideout where Sam and Mary were. He was sick of his “babies” being killed. They win via the Colt (yes, the Colt – Sam had a bullet-making recipe handy). Sam wanted to join the British Men of Letters even though they had tortured him.
Spoilers below.
Supernatural 12.15 “Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell” review: A couple snuggles in the woods. The guy plans on proposing. He is so dead. She finds the ring. She is as good as dead, too. A hellhound finds him and she watches him get ripped apart, before she takes an ax to it and runs.
Same and Dean come back from hunting. They have been quite busy, since Sam’s new “algorithm” finds them many cases. Dean puts down “Lucille” (from The Walking Dead), “Man! Dad loved this thing.” He sure did (does)! Love it!
Cass (Misha Collins) goes to look for a lead on a dead angel. Surveillance shows Dagon.
Sam and Dean go see the girl. Dean asks Sam what’s the story, adding, “This is my much handsomer brother, Dean.” Hahaha!
The hellhound is just biding its time, watching her, through the whole Agent Baker and Clapton visit. It attacks when they leave. Dean and Sam burst back in and save her. But why is a hellhound attacking innocents? Who ya gonna call?
Crowley and Lucifer (Mark Sheppard, Mark Pellegrino) continue their banter, but are interrupted by a call from Dean. A hellhound has gone rogue, so Crowley is in to help out. Sam is going to save the girl.
Dean: “Imagine she’s a beautiful, beautiful woman.” He’s talking about his car, not the girl.
Cass meets one of his brothers – Kelvin. Heaven doesn’t want him back, but if he helps, all will be forgiven. He agrees. I don’t think Dean will be too happy about that. Plus, anytime Cass teams up with angels, they screw him over.
It was Crowley’s lackeys that let the hellhound out, in order to see what he was hiding. They release Lucifer who immediately obliterates them.
Dean calls her “the girl of the week,” as Dean and Crowley talked about how they have changed. I love when the show is self-aware.
Sam and the girl run into the hellhound, and help each other kill it. Case over. Sam tells Dean about the MoL deal. He’s warily okay with it.
Crowley returns to hell, and Lucifer thinks he has the upper hand, but Crowley has a surprise for him. It wasn’t the chains that bound him, it’s his vessel that is warded. Damn, Crowley! Lucifer and I both underestimated you.
It’s weird. Out of all of the monsters from Supernatural, hellhounds are the things that I think are the most terrifying.
I do feel like it’s time for one or both of the boys to have actual love interests. That would put this really good show over the edge again. If they make this Kelly girl or even Dagon have more layers, other than on the side of Lucifer, that would be fantastic as well.
Supernatural airs Thursday nights at 8:00pm ET on The CW.
