Last time on The Magicians, Quentin (Jason Ralph) tried to summon Niffin Alice (Olivia Taylor Dudley), first via interpretive dance, and then with a spell with her dad. That failed as did the attempt with her mother. He discovered that Alice isn’t dead, just living in the tattoo on his back. Prince Ess from Loria kidnaped the castle once Margo (Summer Bishil) rejected his order of giving him half the wellspring and then marriage. She slept with him and mulled the offer until Penny (Arjun Gupta) showed them that it was a trick. She declared war on Loria. Julia found a woman who also had Raynard’s baby because of rape, and she chained Julia up. Kady (Jade Tailor) saved her and they stole the creature, a Haxenpaxen, who was chained too shielding the lady’s whereabouts. Once gone, Raynard found her and killed her.

Spoilers below.

The Magicians 2.7 “Plan B” review: Alice is taunting Q, trying to get him to release her from his back. He is trying to get his Alice back. She says he never will, but insists she doesn’t want to hurt anyone.

Kady finds Julia some witches who can help her (in a butcher shop of course), but they want tons of dough to do it.

Kady: “Well we are magicians. Why don’t we just rob a bank?” Banks do have magical wards, though.

The invisible entity attacks Julia. The Haxenpaxen breaks free and attacks it to save her and dies. Kady says they have to get somewhere safe – Brakebills. Dean Fogg lets her stay. They walk into the Cottage. Kady tells Q what happened, and he goes to talk to her, which is difficult with invisible Niffin Alice jumping in. He still wants to help her.

Julia: “Help us rob a bank.”
Alice: “Oh my god yes.”

Kady runs into Penny in the library, and they immediately have sex. I don’t blame her. Penny is down to rob the bank, but not because of the sex.

Eliot (Hale Appleman) wants to take back the declaration of war, but Margo doesn’t. The kingdom is broke. Fillory needs money too. Q tells them the idea.

Margo: “A Bank heist? Wow…”
Eliot: “I think the time we’ve invested in him may actually pay off.”

Although nobody is thrilled to help Julia, they all have good reasons to do it. Margo has actually robbed a bank so she takes over, explaining that most employees are “Muggles,”

The invisible monster has an invisible friend. Kady stays behind to fight it to gets its “spoon.” She and Penny go back to the butcher shop. The lady explains the mercenaries will keep coming, even though it’s stupid (wont get their money), so hurry up. This also means that Julia can’t come to the heist. The minute she steps out of Brakebills, they will get her.

The group did a spell to get the fingers of the 2 bank personnel needed to open the vault. Poor Q! You’ll see.

First, it’s bees. The bank clears out, and they go in dressed as exterminators. The wards open and Penny floats in. But the gold is heavy and he gets stuck. They go back in for him, but 2 guards are there. And in perhaps in the best scene I have ever seen on television ever, Eliot has a disco ball weapon that makes any who hear it dance without stopping. Eliot made it when not enough people were dancing at parties.

Back to serious… Penny is going to run out of air. Niffin Alice says she can get him out of there, if Q agrees to let her take over for an hour each day. He says a half hour. Done.

But they tripped the battle magician. What will they do? Julia rewinds them for 15 second with only 4 chances.

They all die, but it is on the 4th one that only Eliot dies. He’s only clay though. However, in Fillory, real Eliot has a seizure. The invisible mercenary grabs Julia. Kady kills it, but Julia passes out. When she wakes up, it’s over. They did it, but Kady says, “There was a complication.”

What? What is it? Wait until Wednesday.

What a fun episode. I love that the show, while being very life and death, and very violent, still doesn’t take itself too seriously. Margo is quickly becoming my favorite, with her humorous, bossy ways. Usually the one-offs are less interesting than the overarching, but that wasn’t so in this case. I’m very eager to see what havoc Niffin Alice causes with her 1/2 hour a day. Dudley is killing it as evil Alice.

The Magicians airs Wednesday nights at 9:00pm ET on SyFy.
