Despite weekend reports to the contrary, Blackadder and Mr. Bean actor Rowan Atkinson did NOT die in a car crash on March 18th. He was the victim of a fake news story that was liked and shared more than 300,000 times on social media.

The fake news about the 62-year-old British actor was spread via Twitter by a site posing as FOX News when they posted this weekend the following (with the actor’s age incorrect). “”FOX BREAKING NEWS : Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson) died at 58 after car accident. -March 18, 2017.” The Twitter post reportedly also contained a malicious link.

Atkinson currently star on the British television series Maigret as Chief Inspector Jules Maigret.
