Love Actually

Much of the massive cast of the 2003 holiday favorite romantic comedy Love Actually are about to reunite for a sequel to show fans of the movie what the characters are up to 14 years later in the year 2017.

The sequel won’t be a full movie, however, but a short created for the charity event Red Nose Day. It will even be called Red Nose Day Actually. Stars of the original expected to appear include Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley, Colin Firth, Liam Neeson, Bill Nighy, Andrew Lincoln, Martine McCutcheon, Rowan Atkinson, Lucia Moniz,Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Olivia Olson, and Marcus Brigstocke.

Love Actually was the feature directorial debut of Richard Curtis, who’s best known for his writing. Curtis has worked on the screenplays for Notting Hill, Bridget Jones’s Diary, Mr. Bean, War Horse, and Four Weddings and a Funeral, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award.

Here’s what Curtis had to say about the Love Actually mini-sequel:

“I would never have dreamt of writing a sequel to Love Actually, but I thought it might be fun to do 10 minutes to see what everyone is now up to. Who has aged best? “” I guess that’s the big question”¦or is it so obviously Liam? We’ve been delighted and grateful that so many of the cast are around and able to take part “” and it’ll certainly be a nostalgic moment getting back together and re-creating their characters 14 years later.

We hope to make something that’ll be fun “” very much in the spirit of the original film and of Red Nose Day “” and which we hope will help bring lots of viewers and cash to the Red Nose Day shows.”

Curtis and comedian Lenny Henry actually co-created the British charity Comic Relief, where the Red Nose Day telethon began back in the ’80s, with the aim of helping children and those who live in poverty. Both are still involved to this day. Red Nose Day made its way here to the United States starting in 2015.

This year’s Red Nose Day will be broadcast on BBC in the UK on March 24th, with NBC’s version here in the States scheduled for May 25th.
