IDW Publishing has launched a new Ghostbusters comic book series, adding to their long list of series for the franchise. This time around, Ghostbusters 101 will bring the world of the original team from the 1980s movies together with the “Answer The Call” crew from the 2016 film, along with some of the characters created for the comic-book universe.

Ghostbusters 101 #1 opens on the original crew — Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Ray Stantz, Dr. Egon Spengler, and Winston Zeddemoreon — on a job in New York at Coney Island’s Luna Park amusement park, where they’re attempting to contain a nostalgic Class 3 apparition.

Along with their usual work (which is getting them in trouble with the EPA), they’re training a new generation on ghostbusting — Cait, the niece of Janine Melnitz, the GB office manager; her best friend Zoe; and math geek Evan, who only signed up for instruction because he thought it would look good on his resume.

Meanwhile, in another dimension, the 2016 Ghostbusters — aka, the “Answer The Call” team of Dr. Abby Yates, Dr. Erin Gilbert, Dr. Jillian Holtzmann, Patty Tolan, and Kevin Beckman — are looking to snag a Class 5 entity for research purposes; plus, they’re worried that something is not right right now.

The issue includes Dr. Stantz’s cheat sheet for his students that give the details on the 7-level classifications systems. Like for Stantz’s students, it would be a good idea for the reader to familiarize themselves with this material.

Ghostbusters 101 #1 was released today, March 22, 2017 in stores and online in print and digital.

‘Let’s Do The Space-Warp Again!’ Before they began investigating the supernatural, most of the original Ghostbusters were teachers… and they’ve decided it’s time they start sharing their knowledge again. But when their first batch of students start poking around the firehouse and accidentally set in motion the merging of two universes (it’s easier than you’d think) Venkman, Stantz, Zeddemore, and Spengler will need all the help they can get to put things right! And who do you think will Answer The Call? (If you guessed Holtzmann, Yates, Tolan, and Gilbert… you get a gold star!) It’s a brand new inter-dimensional meeting of the minds, starting here!
