Lupita Nyong'o

Anyone who is anyone would know that an actor would probably have a hard time walking amongst the crowd at the San Diego Comic-Con. So most of the stars blend in using some ingenious cosplay. We’ve seen Maisie Williams dress as Spider-Man. John Boyega simply put a Stormtrooper helmet on. And Bryan Cranston dressed as his own Breaking Bad character by putting a Walter White mask on. So if you are at Comic-Con and see someone wearing a mask, you might never know who is behind it.

Case in point, Lupita Nyong’o. The Academy Award-winning actress who played Maz Kanata in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and plays Nakia, a member of T’Challa’s personal guard, in Marvel’s Black Panther, took to Comic-Con this past weekend dressed as the pink Power Ranger while wearing a jabberwocky mask with sunglasses, and no one seemed to notice. But she did take a couple of videos to prove that it was her. Check it out here below.

In times like these, it’s these kinds of videos that can bring some light and joy into our world. So I am glad we can see the actress embrace the geek culture by mixing it up and having fun on the Comic-Con floor. Lord knows most of us are trapped in the stuffy Hall H.

Nyong’o posted the video of her walk on the Comic-Con floor on her personal Twitter account.

Celebrities dressing up as characters without anyone noticing is not completely new. But it is all in the approach. Some just merely walk the floor. Others have fun with it by being silly and even getting in on some of the cosplay photos. Some go as far as asking a question for their very own panel, as we’ve seen Andrew Garfield do for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. It’s all fun and games.

How would you feel if you took a picture with a cosplayer and did not know that a celebrity was behind the mask?
