Who knows what George Miller‘s scrapped Justice League Mortal would have looked like had it went into production. There are many different versions of why this strange superhero flick never happened, from financial difficulties to the writers’ strike, but the film would have seen one of the greatest superhero team ups facing off against a threat from Maxwell Lord, who would have been played by Jay Baruchel.
The actor recently revealed quite a bit of information surrounding the scrapped film, one of which would have seen Wonder Woman battle against a Minotaur and Superman. Check out what he had to say below.
In an interview to promote Goon: Last of the Enforcers, Baruchel spoke with Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, where he talked at length about Wonder Woman’s role in the film. While it would have been the first time we would have seen Wonder Woman on the big screen, the character, who would have been played by Megan Gale, would be involved in two major fight sequences. The first being a fight on her home island of Themyscira, which is being trampled by a Minotaur with an axe. Here’s what he had to say:
“The first time you see Wonder Woman, the opening scene on Themyscira, it was just her. It’s her on top of a steed and she stood about half a kilometer away from a Minotaur. The Minotaur has a battle-ax in his hand and she just rushes him. All the Amazons are there cheering her on, and she just beheads him. Gets off her steed and holds up the Minotaur thing — and doesn’t say a goddamned thing. I was like, ‘That’s the Wonder Woman I want to see!’ It would have been special.â€
Well, that’s definitely a step away from the Princess Diana that we saw in this year’s Wonder Woman. In that film she wasn’t as confident or had the people rallying around her, instead, she is eager to prove her worth as a warrior. But it would have established her strength and power. That being said, there’s no telling how this would have played out with audiences. So we’ll never know.
But this wouldn’t have been the only epic fight she was in. The actor went on to explain how Maxwell Lord used mind control to take over Superman, who would have been played by DJ Cotrona, and pit him against Wonder Woman.
“I turn him into full red-eye Superman, and then there’s this big-ass fight between him and Wonder Woman, where he breaks her fucking wrists and shit, and then I die halfway through the movie, and then my consciousness is uploaded into a fucking mainframe and I’m an evil computer.”
Heroes fighting amongst themselves has become more common than you think, but since Miller’s Justice League would have come out before The Avengers or Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it would have been the first time we saw the concept in a superhero ensemble film. Again, there’s no telling how audiences would have reacted to all of this. But by the sound of it, it would have been batshit – no pun intended – insane.
So we are just left with wondering, “what if” George Miller’s Justice League ever happened.
