Helen Mirren in Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built

CBS Films has released a teaser trailer for Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built, which stars Academy Award winner Helen Mirren. Also starring is Jason Clarke and Sarah Snook.

The movie follows Sarah Winchester (Mirren), heiress to gunmaker the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. When the company’s founder, Oliver Winchester, died in 1880, the company was passed down to his son, William Wirt Winchester. When William died just a few months later of tuberculosis, ownership then passed to his wife, Sarah. This made her one of the wealthiest women on the planet at the time. But she feared that these deaths were caused by the vengeful spirits of those who had been killed by the firearms the company produced, and this fear led her to build the infamous Winchester Mystery House, a massive mansion unlike any other, nonsensically designed in hopes of confusing any spirits who might be after her.

You can read a synopsis for the movie and check out the teaser trailer below.

SYNOPSIS:

Inspired by true events. On an isolated stretch of land 50 miles outside of San Francisco sits the most haunted house in the world. Built by Sarah Winchester, (Academy Award®-winner Helen Mirren) heiress to the Winchester fortune, it is a house that knows no end. Constructed in an incessant twenty-four hour a day, seven day a week mania for decades, it stands seven stories tall and contains hundreds of rooms. To the outsider it looks like a monstrous monument to a disturbed woman’s madness. But Sarah is not building for herself, for her niece (Sarah Snook) or for the brilliant Doctor Eric Price (Jason Clarke) whom she has summoned to the house. She is building a prison, an asylum for hundreds of vengeful ghosts, and the most terrifying among them have a score to settle with the Winchesters”¦

The movie is directed by brothers Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig, whose previous credits include Undead, Daybreakers, and Predestination. Their latest feature is the return of the Saw franchise, Jigsaw, which is in theaters this Friday.

Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built will be released on February 2, 2018.
