Quentin Tarantino Manson Murders

Details of Quentin Tarantino‘s next film has been slowly coming out of the pipe in the past few weeks. Though nothing was concrete, reports said that it would be about 1969 and center around Charles Manson and his cult. But now that the director has finally found a distributor, and Manson died in a Los Angeles prison today, new details about Tarantino’s film is coming to the surface.

It has been confirmed that Tarantino’s film will be about 1969, and the Manson Family murders will serve as a backdrop to the film. More on the story below.

Vanity Fair was the first to break the news. Sources tell them that the film will center on an actor and his stunt double who are trying to achieve the same goal, all the while Charles Manson and his cult followers are murdering innocent victims, including Sharon Tate and four of her friends. Here’s the official quote from the magazine:

“Set in Los Angeles in the summer of 1969, Tarantino’s upcoming movie, according to a source who read the script, focuses on a male TV actor who’s had one hit series and his looking for a way to get into the film business. His sidekick “” who’s also his stunt double “” is looking for the same thing. The horrific murder of Sharon Tate and four of her friends by Charles Manson’s cult of followers serves as a backdrop to the main story.”

Though it is a very loose read on the actual plot, it does seem to align with what has been previously reported. Tarantino has gone on to say that the film isn’t about Charles Manson, specifically, and clarified that it would be about the year 1969. So audiences will be seeing the end of the 1960s through a different lens. It’s not the first time that the director has taken on a certain time in history, nor is it the first time that he has made a stunt double a major character in his film.

Currently, Margot Robbie is the frontrunner to play Sharon Tate, with Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tom Cruise all lined up to play undisclosed roles. Samuel L. Jackson is also in talks to have a role, which seems like a par for the course for any Tarantino film.

The film has been picked up by Sony, and will be budgeted at approximately $95 to $100 million. The studio was among five that were in a bidding war for Tarantino’s next film after the directed parted ways with The Weinstein Company recently after Harvey Weinstein was hit with a mountain of sexual assault allegations.

No word yet on when the film could be released, but production is slated to begin next year.
