A Wrinkle In Time

Ava DuVerney‘s A Wrinkle In Time is already promising to be one of the most anticipated films of 2018. It touts a stellar cast and gives a visionary director the keys to an acclaimed novel that takes audiences through time and space. The first trailer was just a mere peek at the film’s epic scope. In it we got a look at the juxtaposition between the film’s real-world and the out of this world sci-fi feel. Now, Disney has released a new trailer that tells us just how massive this world really is and the wild fantasy adventure audiences are about to embark on. Check out the latest trailer for the film here below, along with the movie poster and images.

We got a first look at A Wrinkle In Time at the D23 Expo, where DuVernay told attendees how she wanted to be faithful to the source material while also bringing something new to the table. This included assembling a racially diverse cast that was a reflection of today’s society. Of course, when you have the young Storm Reid leading this ensemble film, full of veterans like Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, Reese Witherspoon, and Chris Pine, it’s hard not to believe that she was nervous. Thankfully, Duvernay and the cast helped her out through the process, and now judging by the look of this latest trailer, we are going to be in for an entertaining time at the movies.

In the film, the young and intelligent Meg (Reid) will go on an intergalactic journey across time and space to find her missing father (Pine). Trapped by an evil force that no one can quite understand, three celestial beings — Mrs. Which (Winfrey), Mrs. Whatsit (Witherspoon), Mrs. Who (Kaling) — will help guide Meg on this adventure of epic proportions.

The use of a more dreamy cover of the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams” seems very appropriate considering the out of this world elements that we will see in the film. This includes the film’s outrageous setting, wild creatures, and strange characters. That being said, it still maintains that family-friendly feel by giving Meg the motivation she needs to be the warrior to save her father.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

From visionary director Ava DuVernay comes Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” an epic adventure based on Madeleine L’Engle’s timeless classic which takes audiences across dimensions of time and space, examining the nature of darkness versus light and, ultimately, the triumph of love. Through one girl’s transformative journey led by three celestial guides, we discover that strength comes from embracing one’s individuality and that the best way to triumph over fear is to travel by one’s own light.

Directed by Duvernay, from a screenplay by Jennifer Lee based upon the beloved novel by Madeleine L’Engle, A Wrinkle In Time also stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Peña, Levi Miller, Deric McCabe, André Holland, Rowan Blanchard, and Zach Galifianakis. It opens in theaters on March 9, 2018.
