Recent Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailers have been vague on the details of the plot of Rian Johnson’s latest film. Though we got a sense that Rey (Daisy Ridley) was on her way to becoming a Jedi, despite Luke Skywalker’s (Mark Hamill) reluctance and general pessimistic outlook for the Jedi Order, Finn (John Boyega) and Poe (Oscar Issac) journeys were just beginning. Now with the release of the film less than a month away, we can expect to see more from Star Wars: The Last Jedi in the form of TV spots. Just don’t expect them to reveal anything too spoilery. Even the TV spots are keeping some of the characters in the dark, as the latest one has Finn asking Poe what happened to Rey.
Though this TV spot uses some of the same footage that we have seen in the trailers, it does show us Finn awakening from his coma in the medical pod. While Poe expresses his overall concern for Finn, the former Stormtrooper only wants to know where Rey is.
While it is still too early to see how everything will play out, we get a sense that Finn’s journey isn’t over yet, despite the fact that he still does not want to be a part of the resistance. Earlier this year, Boyega spoke about Finn, and how he has created a reputation for himself after the events of The Force Awakens.
“Everyone in the space, throughout the galaxy, would have heard about the young Jedi who discovered her powers and defeated Kylo Ren and the young former Stormtrooper who helped save the day,” Boyega says. “He’s a hero to people like Rose, who fight for the Resistance because their homes have been destroyed by the First Order.”
That plays a lot to what we’ve been hearing about Rose looking up to him, and how the two are sent on a mission to infiltrate The First Order. Though, it may look like things do not go according to plan, at least based on the trailer which shows Finn using a Stormtrooper electrical baton to strike Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie).
The TV spot also repeats Poe’s line: “We have a spark, that’ll light the fire that’ll burn the First Order down.” But it also reveals that Finn wants to contribute his part in the war against The First Order, as he says “I was raised to fight,” with confidence.”
Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits on December 15, 2017.
