A follow-up to director Rob Zombie‘s debut feature House of 1000 Corpses and its sequel The Devil’s Rejects has been whispered about for a while, but now not only has Zombie confirmed the trilogy-maker but he’s already begun filming it.
The title of the movie is 3 From Hell, and you can see the title logo on a chair in the first production image Zombie shared below. But before you continue on, know that spoilers from the first two movies will be discussed.
In Zombie’s announcement he uses a few hashtags, including the names of two of the stars of the first two entries, Sheri Moon Zombie and Bill Moseley. Noticeably absent from the names, however, is 78-year-old Sid Haig, which naturally worried some fans. Whether this means anything or Zombie simply didn’t include his name (I don’t believe hashtagging is official cast confirmation…not yet anyway) remains to be seen. But for what it’s worth, Bloody Disgusting’s Brad Miska, who first reported about the third entry back in October, says Haig won’t be missing out on the mayhem:
What exactly the movie will be about is not yet known, but the title certainly leads to some interesting and terrifying thoughts as to what’s about to go down. The number three in the title obviously refers to Baby Firefly (Moon Zombie), Otis Driftwood (Moseley), and Captain Spaulding (Haig). But if you’ve seen The Devil’s Rejects, you know it ended with the trio driving straight into a storm of police bullets.
So the big question is “how?” Did they somehow survive? Or did they indeed meet their evil maker and find their way back to the living? It’s not uncommon for mortal monsters of horror films to be stopped for what’s assumed to be good, only to see them rise again as unstoppable, immortal killing machines. And I’m not going to lie, the thought of Baby, Otis, and Captain Spaulding (in full clown make-up) showing up in Hell at the start of this new movie and literally being rejected by the Devil himself and sent back to Earth to wreak havoc for all eternity is both amusing and horrifying in equal parts.
While The Devil’s Rejects was grounded in reality, its much more over-the-top predecessor House of 1000 Corpses did hint at some potential supernatural elements, namely Dr. Satan (take it away, Chris Hardwick!), so it would be fun to see Zombie run with that and just go crazy with it.
No timetable for when we might see 3 From Hell is known just yet.
