Nickelodeon has announced that they’re bringing back the hit game show Double Dare this summer, with 40 brand new episodes.
Their first game show, Nickelodeon’s Double Dare ran in one form or another from 1986 to 1993, including Super Sloppy Double Dare and Family Double Dare. These mainly ran on Nick, with a short run on Fox in the summer of 1988. The show was revived once before with Double Dare 2000, which ran of course in the year 2000.
Continue below for the full announcement, plus a video promo for the show’s return and an added bonus full classic episode.
Here’s the announcement from the press release:
Nickelodeon is bringing back the original kids’ game show Double Dare this summer with 40 brand-new episodes, giving a new generation of fans the chance to compete in the messiest and most physically challenging competition of their lives. With Double Dare remaining an iconic touchstone for its original millennial audiences, the new version will feature the gameplay and challenges they remember, as well as appearances from blasts from the past and stars from today.
Double Dare features two teams competing to win prizes by answering brain-bending trivia questions, completing messy, physical stunts and ultimately facing the infamous obstacle course–the human hamster wheel; the classic gigantic mouth; the wringer; and the iconic Double Dare nose.
The big question about the show’s return that has not yet been answered is, who is going to be the host? Anyone who grew up watching it knows that the longtime host was Marc Summers. Only 2000 had a different host, Jason Harris.
Nearly four years ago Summers made it known that he wanted Nickelodeon to bring back the game show, and he wanted to host it. But he also made it perfectly clear that his relationship with the network was not exactly good at that time, and that they didn’t want to talk to him about it. Summers himself didn’t make things any clearer with his response to the news:
So did they finally patch things up all these years later and the best possible version, hosted by Summers, is returning? Or is this a brand new version with a brand new host? Those are questions to be answered on another day.
