Get Out writer and director Jordan Peele, who won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for his work, has revealed that the title of his next film will be Us.
Peele unveiled the title with the release of a poster on Twitter, which can be seen below. Details on what his next movie is about have not yet been shared, unfortunately, but it is being reported that fellow Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave, Black Panther) is in talks to star.
Other actors Peele is currently looking at for potential roles include Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale, Mad Men), who’s said to be the top choice for one of the lead roles, and Winston Duke (Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War).
Peele will once again write and direct Us, and he produces as well through his Monkeypaw Productions. The project is the first in a first-look deal he signed with Universal Pictures. Producing the film alongside Peele is Ian Cooper, also through Monkeypaw, and Sean McKittrick and Jason Blum.
After the massively successful Get Out, which earned over $250 million worldwide on a $4.5 million budget, Peele has of course had plenty of things to work on and offers to consider.
Last year he was in talks to direct the long-gestating adaptation of Akira, which he ultimately turned down. He’s also executive producing the HBO horror anthology series Lovecraft Country, which comes from Peele, J.J. Abrams, and Warner Bros. Television. Late last year came word that he was working on a new take on The Twilight Zone for CBS All Access. A couple of months back we found out that he was set to star in the stop-motion animated feature Wendell and Wild alongside his Key and Peele co-star Keegan-Michael Key. He’s also co-creator and executive producer on the new TV series The Last O.G. starring Tracy Morgan and Tiffany Haddish. Just to name a few things.
Though no story details have been revealed for Us just yet, Universal has already locked in a release date for the film. It’s currently set to be released in theaters on March 15, 2019.
