Debuting in 2016 on Disney Junior, Elena Of Avalor spun off from the popular animated series Sofia the First to become Disney’s first Latin American princess. Combining multiple Latin American cultures, Elena is one of the most popular shows on Disney television, and one of my daughter’s favorites. She sat with me while we watched the new DVD Elena Of Avalor: Realm Of Jaquins. The DVD features 4 episodes of the series along with plenty of special features your kids will enjoy.

Celebrating her first year as princess of Avalor, Elena is watching as the young jaquins (flying jaguars) participate in challenges in attempts to become Guardians of Avalor. When the villains cost one jaquin Nico his opportunity, Elena stands up for what’s right and against orders goes to the Jaquin homeworld of Vallestrella to ask the King to give Nico a second chance. Elena (Aimee Carrero) is a great role model for young girls. She’s driven to do the right thing and help her friends.

By entering Vallestrella, they accidentally let evil siblings Victor and Carla Delgado in as well. Victor is voiced by Lou Diamond Phillips and Carla by Myrna Velasco. Their goal is to free an evil forest sprite who can help them take over Avalor. The sprite, Marimonda (Noel Wells), is hilarious with her never-ending rhyming and Cheech Marin voices a magical dragon in a funny cameo. The two-part episode is filled with great songs and adventure that kids will love while also instilling good values.

Along with the two-part “Realm of the Jaquins,” there are two other episodes on the DVD, “Three Jaquins and a Princess” and “Shapeshifters.” The disc also features 10 bonus shorts that will keep young ones enthralled. My 7-year old really enjoyed the collection and I’m sure your little ones will to.

Elena Of Avalor: Realm of the Jaquins is a welcomed addition to your Disney collection, a fun way to keep kids occupied for a few hours, and most importantly provides girls and all kids with a great independent role model.
