Danny Boyle No Longer Directing James Bond 25

Bond 25 is without a director. Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the producers who have been overseeing the James Bond franchise since the ’90s, and star Daniel Craig have announced that Danny Boyle will no longer be directing the next film in the series.

According to them, they split over “creative differences.” A term that is often thrown out there whenever something like this happens. In any case, the lack of any sort of development for the film was very telling. Now Wilson and Broccoli will have to start over and look at replacements if they want to get production started soon. And please don’t suggest Christopher Nolan. But more on that a little later. Check out the full story below.

The announcement was made on the official James Bond Twitter account:

Well that’s getting straight to the point. There’s no press release of any kind. While the delivery may be a bit unusual, there may be some truth to the idea of “creative differences.”

But Boyle had been considered an outisde of the box choice. Although, the franchise has had some previous arthouse directors like Marc Forster and Sam Mendes. So maybe the idea was to continue that. However, with Spectre‘s tepid reactions, maybe Wilson, Broccoli, and Craig felt it was time to do something different. This is all speculation on my part. Maybe they will return to something that is a bit more fun and lighter than the previous installments.

There is a possibility that they could refer back to the shortlist that was released before Boyle was hired. However, some of them are currently busy with their own projects. Denis Villeneuve will be starting on his vision for a new Dune film starring Timothee Chalamet. Then there is David Mackenzie, whose film Outlaw Kingcheck out the new trailer here – starring Chris Pine releases later this year.

Of course, there is the very safe and obvious choice in Christopher Nolan. A choice which would put many to sleep as it is as dull as it is all too predictable. Not that I don’t appreciate Nolan’s work. But we should be asking for something more daring and risky. Maybe a woman or a person of color should direct this.

Of course, we will keep you posted on who will replace Boyle.
