Overlord Wyatt Russell

Paramount released another trailer for Overlord, the supernatural Nazi zombie thriller directed by Julius Avery. Set during World War II, American paratroopers go on a mission to infiltrate a Nazi base. Little do they know that the serum that Nazi scientists are creating could turn any mortal into a mindless zombie. And in this trailer, we get to see plenty of Nazi zombies. Check out the trailer here below.

In this very brief trailer, Overlord reveals how the American paratroopers stumble upon these experiments when they see an abandoned church. But when one of their own is killed, a soldier takes it upon himself to use the dangerous serum to revive him. At first, the team is relieved and the former fallen soldier is grateful. However, the side effects begin to take hold, turning the man into a zombie.

And that is pretty much the gist of this trailer. Which isn’t at all surprising considering that this is a Bad Robot production. They sure do love the mystery box film. So I am betting that there is more to this than they are letting on. And contrary to popular belief, this will not be a Cloverfield film.

There were some theories that said there was a connection to Cloverfield, but producer J.J. Abrams confirmed at CinemaCon earlier this year that Overlord was its own film. He did say that there would be a true Cloverfield sequel in the near future. But that is for another time.

As for Overlord, it looks like it’s going to a B-rated horror inside of a mystery box. Bad Robot films are known to be unconventional with elements that leave audiences either wanting more or being completely surprised. And the trailer makes sure to let everyone know about all the high praise that it has been receiving since its debut at Fantastic Fest. So let’s just hope it lives up to the hype.

Here’s the official synopsis for Overlord:

With only hours until D-Day, a team of American paratroopers drop into Nazi-occupied France to carry out a mission that’s crucial to the invasion’s success. Tasked with destroying a radio transmitter atop a fortified church, the desperate soldiers join forces with a young French villager to penetrate the walls and take down the tower. But, in a mysterious Nazi lab beneath the church, the outnumbered G.I.s come face-to-face with enemies unlike any the world has ever seen. From producer J.J. Abrams, Overlord is a thrilling, pulse-pounding action adventure with a twist.

Written by Billy Ray and Mark L. Smith, Overlord stars Jovan Adepo, Wyatt Russell, Jacob Anderson, Dominic Applewhite, Pilou Asbæk, Iain De Caestecker, John Magaro, Mathilde Ollivier, and Bokeem Woodbine. It opens in theaters on November 9, 2018.
