Annapurna Pictures has released the latest trailer for Karyn Kusama‘s Destroyer, starring Nicole Kidman. In the film, Kidman plays an aged undercover cop who must confront her past when a criminal she was assigned to arrest comes back.
The film made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year and was met with high praise. Now, we are getting a first look at what could be one of the best films of the year. Check it out below.
In Destroyer, Kidman plays Erin Bell, who looks like she has been through hell and back, twice. Exhausted and haunted by the memories of infiltrating a gang, she will have to do what it takes to stop the gang leader when he re-emerges from hiding.
Now, it may have a plot to that’s similar to other crime dramas, but the hook here is the performances, particularly the one from Kidman. It’s not like a crime drama to have a female lead. Which is great, because now we get to see a new perspective on the psychologically damaged cop.
The trailer adds a few tags praising its star and even throws some praise towards Kusama’s work on the film.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
Sixteen years ago LAPD detective Erin Bell went undercover in the California desert to infiltrate a gang led by the terrifying Silas. When one of their brutal heists goes wrong, Erin’s cover is blown and Silas escapes. But many years later he re-emerges, bolder and more dangerous than ever, with a plan for the mother of all bank heists. This time Erin is going to stop him.
Sebastian Stan, Tatiana Maslany, Toby Kebbell, and Bradley Whitford also star.
Destroyer opens December 25, 2018, just in time for an awards season campaign.
