Shudder bringing back Joe Bob Briggs for a special 24-hour horror marathon last summer turned out to be an excellent decision. The marathon was so popular, it crashed the streaming service.
That led to a pair of holiday specials, “The Dinners of Death” for Thanksgiving followed by “A Very Joe Bob Christmas.” At the same time the holiday specials were announced, it was also revealed that Joe Bob was getting a brand new series sometime in 2019.
Now Shudder has released an official trailer for The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs series, which you can find below along with more details on the show and when you’ll be able to see it.
The first season of the series will consist of nine episodes, released weekly. Each episode will first air live, and consist a double feature of frightful flicks paired of course with Joe Bob’s commentary and more.
Of the new series, Joe Bob himself (via Bloody Disgusting) had this to say:
“We’ve had The Last Drive-In 24-hour marathon, The Last Drive-In Thanksgiving marathon, and The Last Drive-In Christmas marathon, but the Shudder audience kept asking for some kind of programming that didn’t require sleep deprivation and controlled substances. The double features we chose for the weekly series range over five decades and include everything from classics to obscurities to foreign cult offerings, with a handful of guests who have agreed to play around with us in our Texas trailer park. I don’t want to say we got carried away with the possibilities here, but we kind of got carried away with the possibilities here.”
Producing the series is Matt Manjourides and Justin Martell, with Austin Jennings directing.
The first episode of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs is set to stream on Shudder one month from now on Friday, March 29th. A new episode will then stream every Friday after that for nine weeks, concluding on May 24th.
Hopefully, if it remains as popular as it has been, this means we’ll get another summer marathon and some more holiday specials before a second season arrives.
