The art of movie poster design isn’t easy. Especially when one follows the theme of characters leaning against something, being back-to-back, floating heads, etc. And the harsh criticism only gets worse when the photoshop is obvious. Case in point, the first poster for Quentin Tarantino‘s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. The film, which is set for a July release, stars Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio as struggling actors living in 1969 Los Angeles at the height of the Manson murders. Check out the poster here below.
It’s pretty safe to say that this photoshopped poster is a bit of a disappointment. But DiCaprio’s “Los Angeles. 1969” caption sets up the basics of what we need to know about the upcoming film. While Tarantino’s projects are known to have a star-studded cast, we can surmise that most of the film will center on DiCaprio and Pitt, who will be playing Rick Dalton and Cliff Booth, respectively.
With the release of the poster, it’s safe to say the release of the first trailer isn’t too far behind.
Dalton, is the young actor who has been attempting to make the transition from television to film. A transition that hasn’t been easy for him. He also happens to be a neighbor to Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie). Booth is Dalton’s best friend and stunt double.
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood also stars Tarantino regulars like Tim Roth, Kurt Russell, Bruce Dern, and Michael Madsen. Other stars include Al Pacino, Emile Hirsch, Damian Lewis, Dakota Fanning, and Mike Moh. The late Burt Reynolds and Luke Perry also have roles.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
In 1969 Los Angeles, around the time of the Charles Manson murders, a television actor and his stunt double embark on an odyssey to make a name for themselves in the film industry.
Written and directed by Tarantino, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood opens in theaters on July 26, 2019.
