Now that we know that Bill & Ted 3: Face the Music is coming Summer 2020 with stars Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves reprising their respective title roles, everyone is wondering what other familiar faces will be returning and how the filmmakers will address, if at all, the absence of the late George Carlin.
Today, the official Bill & Ted Twitter account confirmed that William Sadler, the actor who played the Grim Reaper in the second movie, 1991’s Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, will be reprising his role for the new film.
The post read, “For those who have been asking, @Wm_Sadler will totally be reprising his role!” and was accompanied by a gif of Sadler’s Grim Reaper uttering “You have sunk my battleship!,” one of his most memorable lines from Bogus Journey.
In response to the news, a Twitter user asked if there would be a tribute to the late George Carlin, who played Rufus in the previous films, and it looks like there will be. The official account responded, “He’s so deeply missed by all who worked with him on the previous two films. His character will not be recast, but his absence will be a part of the whole third movie – including what is possibly the most emotional scene of the film.”
Written by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, who penned the original films, and directed by Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest), Bill & Ted 3: Face the Music hits theaters on August 21, 2020.
