The Movie God   |  @   |

Amazon Prime Video

Amazon has announced the full lineup of movies and television shows set to arrive on Prime Video in the new month.

This includes a few highlighted titles coming to the streaming service as well as a little bit about them, followed by the rest of the incoming movies and TV shows and the date they’ll be added to Prime Video.

All of the Amazon Arrivals for April 2019 can be found below.

April is a month for returns “” and not just your tax return. At Prime Video, we’re celebrating the return of Bosch and The Tick alongside new seasons from several other of our favorite series. We’ve got movies, too, from classics like The Shawshank Redemption and Beetlejuice to new hits like A Quiet Place.

Here are our top nine Prime Video arrivals for April.

1) Bosch, Season 5 “” April 19

The four-season story uncovering the murder of Bosch’s mother might be done, but the series isn’t stopping. Titus Welliver stars as Harry Bosch, the brilliant but aggressively anti-social homicide detective. In the fifth season, Bosch tries to solve a new murder while dealing with allegations that he planted evidence in an old one. A Prime Original series. (TV-MA)

2) The Tick, Season 2 “” April 5

There is no other show quite like The Tick, a wonderfully off-kilter action comedy that takes the standard superhero setup and gives it several sharp twists. Peter Serafinowicz plays the hero in the electric-blue suit. Griffin Newman is Arthur Everest, the Tick’s mentally troubled sidekick who may be hallucinating much of what goes on. A Prime Original series. (TV-14)

3) A Quiet Place “” April 2

Real-life pair John Krasinski and Emily Blunt star as a married couple whose home is invaded by voracious creatures who hunt by sound. The parents and their young children must fight back without making noise. Krasinski also directed and co-wrote the Oscar-nominated horror film. (2018, PG-13)

4) The Shawshank Redemption “” April 1

Currently the top-rated movie of all-time by IMDb voters, The Shawshank Redemption is a film that invites multiple viewings. Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins play prisoners who find their own forms of redemption inside the dehumanizing walls of Shawshank State Penitentiary. (1994, R)

5) Overboard “” April 17

This remake of the 1987 Goldie Hawn-Kurt Russell rom-com reverses the gender roles, with Eugenio Derbez as the spoiled rich person and Ana Faris as the struggling single parent. When he suffers amnesia after falling off his yacht, she sees an opportunity for revenge. But her plan goes awry when she finds herself falling for him. (2018, PG-13)

6) Diablo Guardián, Season 2 “” April 12

The first Prime Original series in Spanish returns for a second season. A frustrated teen girl, Violetta (Paulina Gaitán), steals from her parents and flees Mexico City for New York. On the way, she is sidetracked into a seamy life and falls into the clutches of the crime boss Nefas (Andrés Almeida). You don’t need to speak Spanish to enjoy Diablo Guardián, just switch on the closed captions. (TV-MA)

7) Beetlejuice “” April 1

Perhaps the finest haunted-house movie ever made “” and certainly the funniest “” Beetlejuice rides on a maniacally brilliant performance by Michael Keaton and the visual genius of director Tim Burton. Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin and Winona Ryder costar. (1988, PG)

8) Humans, Season 3 “” April 27

Science-fiction fans have never had it better. There is a wealth of outstanding sci-fi series to binge through, and Humans is one of the best. It’s set in an alternate world where people routinely use humanoid robots called synths. Season 3 begins after all synths have achieved consciousness, and humans must decide how to deal with this “problem.” Humans explores ethical and philosophical issues without sacrificing a gripping story. (TV-14)

9) Vikings, Season 5 “” April 30

The age of the Norse explorers and conquerors is brought to life in this series. Vikings is equal parts brainy and bloody, as the warriors plunder much of northern Europe but also adopt Christianity and interact with foreign cultures. The fifth season is the first without Travis Fimmel as Ragnar Lothbrok, and the series shifts its focus to the exploits of his sons. (TV-14)
