We know that Bill & Ted 3 is coming to theaters Summer 2020, and now we know that filming on the long-awaited sequel begins today!
The official Bill & Ted movie Twitter page posted last night that “We begin filming tomorrow, dude!”, while franchise co-screenwriter Ed Solomon posted to his account, “Monday. Crew call: 7:30. First shot: 9:00.” This morning, Solomon posted the words “Party On” with a photo of a sign showing the way to the set.
Stars Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves will reprise their title roles as Bill S. Preston Esq. and Ted “Theodore” Logan in Bill & Ted: Face the Music, as will William Sadler as the Grim Reaper.
Winter posted a photo of himself this morning to his Twitter account that shows the back of his shirt, which reads “Wyld Stallyns,” the name of Bill and Ted’s band.
Also reprising their roles, per Variety, are Hal Landon Jr. as Ted’s dad Captain Jonathan Logan and Amy Stoch as Missy… err, Mom.
New to the cast are SNL cast member Beck Bennett as Ted’s younger brother Deacon Logan; Glee star Jayma Mays as Bill’s wife Princess Joanna; and Children’s Hospital actress Erinn Hayes as Ted’s wife Princess Elizabeth (per Deadline).
In the upcoming film, the duo will set out on a new time-traveling adventure, this time with their teenage daughters. Samara Weaving will play Thea Preston, the daughter of Bill (Winter), with Brigette Lundy-Paine as Billie Logan, daughter of Ted (Reeves).
Also joining the franchise are Scott Mescudi aka rapper Kid Cudi and Anthony Carrigan (Gotham). There’s also reportedly a casting call out for extras to appear in the film as historical figures.
Regarding the tone of Bill & Ted Face The Music, Solomon, responding to a fan question on Twitter, said, it will be more like the first film, 1989’s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure rather than its sequel, 1991’s Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey.
Written by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, who penned the two original films, and directed by Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest), Bill & Ted: Face the Music hits theaters on August 21, 2020.
