The latest movie from Audition, Ichi the Killer, and 13 Assassins director Takashi Miike, titled First Love (Hatsukoi), made its premiere at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival as part of the 51st Directors’ Fortnight earlier this year. The film has since been acquired by Well Go USA.
Now Well Go has released a new teaser trailer for First Love. You can find more info and give the trailer a watch below.
Here’s more on the movie and Miike from the Directors’ Fortnight website:
SYNOPSIS:
Set over one night in Tokyo, we follow Leo, a young boxer down on his luck as he meets his “˜first love’ Monica, a callgirl and an addict but still an innocent.
Little does Leo know, Monica is unwittingly caught up in a drug-smuggling scheme, and the two are pursued through the night by a corrupt cop, a yakuza, his nemesis, and a female assassin sent by the Chinese Triads.
All their fates interwine in spectacular Miike style, at his most anarchic and fun.
DIRECTOR:
Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike is one of the most notable and controversial directors working today. Although Miike is known internationally for his horror-like elements, he has worked in many different genres, often combining them in a unique and audacious way.
Starring in the movie is Masataka Kubota, Nao Omori, Shôta Sometani, Sakurako Konishi, Becky, Jun Murakami, Sansei Shiomi, and Seiyo Uchino.
The screenplay was written by Masa Nakamura, who co-wrote Miike’s excellent 2007 western Sukiyaki Western Django.
First Love is set to be released in theaters on September 27th.
