Each and every week, I, “Home Sweet Home!” Henchman 21 and “Dr. Feelgood!” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of our pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of September 3, 2014. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

I’m not going to lie to you, it’s not the greatest week for comics. Sure, there’s good stuff, as there always is, but this week’s releases are dominated by a couple of events that I’m not really interested in. When all of DC gets tied up in a big event (ohhhh, flashy covers), it’s hard for me to get excited. But we’re going to soldier on and find some gems out there in comics land this week, because that’s what we do on The God List!

It’s a week of goodbyes as we mourn the end of one great series and the end of an era for a publisher. Fret not though because it’s also a week of hellos as we welcome some new series that should be a lot of fun. Also, Flash Gordon is on the list because Flash Gordon is awesome! So get ready for a nice three day weekend in North America by stocking up on all the comics presented in this here GoD List!

Golem Arcana banner

There are plenty of table top miniature games out there for gamers to choose from. Whether they have rules that require measuring, like Warhammer or Warmachine, or if they play out on more of a standard game board like Heroclix, there has always been plenty of choices to entice gamers. Probably the biggest barrier of entry for many gamers is all the fiddly rules that go into things like range, movement, and line of sight, along with a million other rules that you have to keep straight. Golem Arcana, a new game from Harebrained Schemes (the Shadowrun Returns PC game) and designers Jordan Weisman (Heroclix, MageKnight, Shadowrun), Seth Johnson and Michael Mulvihill, looks to enter the miniature market with an exciting new game that seeks to remove the need to memorize rules and go straight to gameplay through an innovative mobile app that streamlines many facets of the game.

Gen Con 2014: The Battle at Kemble’s Cascade

The Battle at Kemble's Cascade box art

There a couple of big trends in the world of board games: zombies, superheroes, and anything with an 8″bit video game ascetic. The Battle at Kemble’s Cascade falls into that third category. In The Battle at Kemble’s Cascade, 2″5 players take on the roles of spaceship pilots in a recreation of classic side scrolling shooting games such as Space Invaders, Gradius, and Ikaruga.

The game comes with a set of five trays that are set up horizontally and are used to hold cards representing the various threats that show up in shooters that the players will have to deal with: asteroids, black holes, and of course alien warships. Players spend their turns dealing with the various threats, gaining money to use on upgrades to their ships, gaining victory points, and basically dealing with whatever’s on the board. Once each player has taken their turn, the bottom tray of cards is removed, with any players that are still on this tray being pushed onto what was the second row of cards, which is now the bottom row. The tray that was just on the bottom is moved to the top, and a new set of cards is revealed. It all simulates a top down scrolling shooter in a brilliant and “so simple I can’t believe no one’s done it before” manner.

Each and every week, I, “The Henchman of Earth 21!” Henchman 21 and “Empress of Earth 53!” Empress Eve read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. Naturally, we look forward to some more than others. I mean, who doesn’t? Single issues and trades, they’re all here.

This is a week of comics that is dominated by one big release that everyone is going to be talking about, which is why we’re here. This is the perfect chance to talk about books that may get lost in the shuffle of a giant release, and that’s just what we’re going to do. Of course, I can’t just ignore that giant release either, so I’m going to get into that shortly. It’s a week of dreams, dreamers, and crazy worlds which sounds like just the kind of thing we like here on The GoD List!
