Grammys stage

The Grammys were held on Sunday night, February 12, 2017, and hosted by James Corden at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, with the live broadcast on CBS starting at 8pm EST (5pm PST).

Below are some of the highlights and clips from the broadcast of The 59th Annual Grammy Awards, along with the full list of Grammy winners at the end.

Here’s my usual official Grammys warning: I hate country music, I strongly dislike pop music, and I mostly have no idea about new music that’s not hard rock or heavy metal. I can, though, be objective when talking about a performance when it happens to be really good. With that, when I say I’m writing about the “highlights,” well, it’s the highlights according to me, a metalhead who watched the Grammys, a show that doesn’t even bother to televise the Heavy Metal category. With all of the deaths in the music world in 2016, I was sure that there’d be a lot of tributes, and I was intrigued by the tease of the Metallica and Lady Gaga team-up. Turns out, this year was mostly a snooze-fest, but there were some energetic performances that made up for everything else.

Daniel Craig as James Bond in Spectre

It’s a very prestigious moment when an artist can join a very elite group that feature’s the likes of Paul McCartney, Duran Duran, Tom Jones, and Sheryl Crow. We aren’t talking about the Grammy’s or The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We’re talking Bond. James Bond.

On Monday, the artist Sam Smith casually broke his vow of denial on the subject of whether he was chosen to sing the theme song for the upcoming Bond movie, Spectre. It was confirmed shortly after Smith posted a picture of a peculiar ring that features the famous evil organization’s S.P.E.C.T.R.E logo on it, that indeed the theme song will be called “Writing’s on the Wall” and feature Smith as the singer/songwriter. It will be the first time since “Thunderball” (Tom Jones) in 1965 that featured a British male solo artist as the theme song singer.

Smith will have to really step up his game if he hopes to top the last Bond film’s theme song which was Adele‘s “Skyfall” for the Bond film of the same name. That song went on to earn an Oscar for Best Song at the Academy Awards and is considered by many to be one of the best Bond songs of them all.

Skyfall Title

Ever since Daniel Craig became James Bond, the Bond theme songs have been so-so. Granted, there’s only been two songs, but the Jack White and Alicia Keys duet for Quantum of Solace was less than stellar. This time around, MGM and EON Productions have chosen soon-to-be music icon Adele to sing the theme for Skyfall. Now with the film just a few weeks away from its UK release, we are getting our first listen to Adele’s brand new song for the highly anticipated film. We have the player, you just have to listen. Check out the song here below.

The song is sexy, sultry, and smooth, and there are hints of Bond’s main theme layered within it. Powered by some awesome vocals, “Skyfall” is a great song to listen to. Skyfall opens in theaters in the UK on October 26 and the U.S. on November 9th, with IMAX shows on the 8th.
