Discussion: Can Sam Smith Really Top “Skyfall”?
|
 |

It’s a very prestigious moment when an artist can join a very elite group that feature’s the likes of Paul McCartney, Duran Duran, Tom Jones, and Sheryl Crow. We aren’t talking about the Grammy’s or The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We’re talking Bond. James Bond.
On Monday, the artist Sam Smith casually broke his vow of denial on the subject of whether he was chosen to sing the theme song for the upcoming Bond movie, Spectre. It was confirmed shortly after Smith posted a picture of a peculiar ring that features the famous evil organization’s S.P.E.C.T.R.E logo on it, that indeed the theme song will be called “Writing’s on the Wall” and feature Smith as the singer/songwriter. It will be the first time since “Thunderball” (Tom Jones) in 1965 that featured a British male solo artist as the theme song singer.
Smith will have to really step up his game if he hopes to top the last Bond film’s theme song which was Adele‘s “Skyfall” for the Bond film of the same name. That song went on to earn an Oscar for Best Song at the Academy Awards and is considered by many to be one of the best Bond songs of them all.

Geek Peek: Femme Fatales Of James Bond Movie ‘Spectre’ (Images)

A common staple of the long-running James Bond franchise is the Bond girl. There is no set number on how many Bond girls can appear in one film or set rules on the role she will play in the film. The character can be either an ally or an enemy, a pivotal character to Bond’s mission, or just simply eye candy.
For the upcoming James Bond film, Spectre, there will be four Bond girls. Lea Seydoux (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Monica Bellucci (The Matrix Revolutions, Shoot ‘Em Up), and Stephanie Sigman (Netflix’s Narcos, FX’s The Bridge) will play new characters in the film, while Naomie Harris (28 Days Later) will reprise her role as Moneypenny, a role she first played in Skyfall.
Now Sony Pictures and EON Productions has released four brand new images and shared character descriptions for the four Bond girls that will appear in Spectre, which you can check out below.

Latest ‘Spectre’ TV Spot Is An Action-Filled Thrill

The first teaser for Spectre, the new James Bond film, focused on Bond’s past and a possible connection to the titular nefarious organization. Now a new TV spot has arrived, and it features all new footage that wasn’t seen in the teaser trailer. It is a more action focused trailer, with Bond pulling no punches.
The TV spot, which runs at a minute long, also features some older footage, but is primarily focused on showing you just how intense the action will be in the film. Check out the newest TV spot for Spectre below.

‘Spectre’ Teaser Trailer: James Bond 007 Returns, and This Time He Has Secrets

The first trailer for the latest James Bond adventure, Spectre, has premiered this evening. You can watch it here below.
After doing a bang-up job directing Skyfall, Oscar-winner Sam Mendes is back behind the camera for Daniel Craig‘s fourth go-around as Ian Fleming‘s iconic, globe-trotting British superspy. Spectre‘s inaugural teaser is light on action and heavy on mood and mystery, literally keeping Christoph Waltz‘s secret villain in the shadows. We get some hints at Bond’s past, including a callback to the final battle in Skyfall, and the surprise appearance of Jesper Christensen as Mr. White, the enigmatic puppet master who appeared briefly in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, indicates that we might see some loose ends from those earlier films finally get tied up.

Sam Mendes Confirmed To Direct ‘James Bond 24’ With Daniel Craig; Release Dates Announced

After what seemed like a back-and-forth of yeses and noes, Sam Mendes has finalized a deal with Sony Pictures to direct the untitled James Bond 24 with Daniel Craig returning once again to star.
The announcement was made earlier today, and Skyfall screenplay writer John Logan will return to pen the script. The studio also announced October 23, 2015 release date for the UK and November 6, 2015 release dates for the US. That means that Bond 24 would be opening up against Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man. With those two pics opening up against each other, Disney will most likely switch the release date so that it won’t be in direct competition with such a heavy hitter.

Sam Mendes Won’t Be Directing The Next James Bond Adventure After All

Last year Skyfall brought the James Bond franchise roaring back to life after a four-year-long hiatus due primarily to the financial difficulties of the once mighty studio MGM. Under the direction of Academy Award-winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Road to Perdition), Skyfall became the definitive Bond film for many, earned critical raves, and was the first movie in the series to gross over $1 billion worldwide. Mendes’ intelligent handling of the material and the performances he elicited from series leads Daniel Craig and Dame Judi Dench were credited rightfully for a major part of the film’s creative and commercial success and it had been assumed that the director would return to helm the next outing for Ian Fleming‘s iconic superspy.
Sadly that does not look to be so. Mendes said in a recent interview with Empire that he’s turned down an offer from the producers to direct the next Bond film.
