Air New Zealand has created what they have dubbed “The Most Epic Safety Video Ever Made,” and it would not be easy to argue otherwise.

The safety video is inspired by the world of Middle-earth and the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogies that are set there. It features cast and crew from those movies, such as star Elijah Wood, director Sir Peter Jackson, actor Dean O’Gorman (Fili), actor Sylvester McCoy (Radagast), and Weta co-founder and five-time Oscar-winning special effects, makeup, and costume design wiz Sir Richard Taylor.

Last week, Smaug got out of his cave and took a small vacation to Los Angeles, which also was just in time to celebrate the premiere of Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. But how did he get there exactly? Well, the famed dragon teamed up with Air New Zealand of course, and flew across the Pacific, where he was welcomed at LAX airport by Jackson, two cast members from the film, and the New Zealand National Board of Tourism.

Okay that may be a bit too much, but to celebrate the release of the film, Air New Zealand completely transformed a seemingly normal Boeing 777, into the mythical dragon. Hit the jump to find out all the details of the plane, and some photos from the event, which we were able to attend.

With the next Hobbit film, The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug, on the way next month, the folks over at Air New Zealand put together an uplifting video showing “just another day in Middle-earth.”

Filmmaker Peter Jackson shot The Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings trilogies in his native New Zealand and parts of the country have provided the vast landscape for J.R.R Tolkien’s Middle-Earth since 2001’s The Fellowship of the Ring. If you journey to New Zealand (a dream of mine!), you can actually see Hobbiton, which was reconstructed for The Hobbit movies, this time making permanent structures so that there will be a piece of Middle-earth there long after the film crew departs.
