Doctor Who

The mid-series finale for Series 6 of Doctor Who is here, and while Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and her baby are being held captive by Madame Kovarian (Frances Barber) and the Cleric Military, the Doctor (Matt Smith) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) call upon old debts from a variety of unlikely allies to form an “army,” as A Good Man Goes To War.

The Doctor will rise higher than ever before, and fall so much further – and the true identity of the enigmatic River Song (Alex Kingston) will finally be revealed…

During TARDISblend 29, we review the events of A Good Man Goes To War, the conclusion to the first half of the current season. We discuss the final revelation of who River Song truly is, and the band of companions the Doctor unites for his army to find Amy Pond. We look at the consequences of the Doctor being seen and feared as a great warrior, and speculate on what to expect for the second part of Series 6.

We also discuss the recent news about Series 7 – which now looks like it will be split across the end of 2012 and the beginning of 2013. We recommend some Classic Doctor Who, and reveal a spoiler for Torchwood: Miracle Day. All this and more on the latest TARDISblend!

Doctor Who

It’s been a big news week for Doctor Who, with some major announcements and rumors floating around the web about Series 7. The BBC has made a formal announcement that they have commissioned 14 new episodes for 2012, including a Christmas Special, which has become a tradition for the new era of Doctor Who.

Additionally, Steven Moffat and the BBC have also confirmed that Matt Smith will be continuing his role as the Doctor in Series 7 during 2012, following some silly rumors online that he was stepping down. With the official confirmation from the BBC, the rumors were put to rest… but that didn’t stop Moffat and others lay out some clues as to what else we might be seeing in Series 7.

Following the official announcements from the BBC, John Barrowman (aka Captain Jack Harkness from Torchwood) revealed in an interview with Zap2It that the return of Captain Jack to Doctor Who has been discussed between Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat. “I’ve always said that if I’m asked to go back to Doctor Who, I’ll go at the drop of a hat,” Barrowman says. “That’s where Captain Jack got his beginnings. And it’s already been discussed.”

Exams put my review of the new Doctor Who episodes Day of the Moon behind a bit more than I’d like, so I figured I’d lump it in with my The Curse of the Black Spot review. This ended up being a good thing, cause I have lots to say about one of these episodes and not so much to say about the other. Hit the jump for the full review.

‘Today’ Host Meredith Vieira Films ‘Doctor Who’ Cameo – and Reveals Some Big Spoilers!

Doctor WhoIn one of perhaps the most unusual cameos to ever happen in Doctor Who ever, NBC’s Meredith Vieira from the Today show makes an appearance on one of the closing episodes of the current series. After filming her cameo, Vieira aired a segment on her morning talk show, which you can check out at the bottom of this post.

Vieira’s segment not only features some cool “in-character” interviews with The Doctor (Matt Smith) and River Song (Alex Kingston), but some spoilery revelations as well.

While I love the fact that showrunner Steven Moffat and the Doctor Who crew give out little tidbits, teasers, and clues in the lead-up to the airing of episodes; I’m extremely surprised that they let some of these spoilers slip out (and be seen!) in Vieira’s segment for the Today show.

That being said, some of the footage and discussion in the video does match up with some of the theories that we’ve recently been discussing on the TARDISblend podcast.

Doctor WhoThe battle against The Silents continues in Day of the Moon, as the Doctor (Matt Smith) and his companions form a plan to begin a revolution against the strange aliens who use their post-hypnotic suggestive powers to control to human race. The Doctor has a plan, involving Apollo 11 and Neil Armstrong’s foot… but the Silents may prove to become the Doctor’s most dangerous adversaries of all time…

During TARDISblend 24, we review the events of Doctor Who Day of the Moon, and discuss the possibilities of who the strange little girl (Sydney Wade) was in this episode — as well as the jaw-dropping cliffhanger involving her at the end of the episode! We take a look at the complex relationship and tragic love story between The Doctor and River Song (Alex Kingston), and how he wants to run off to new adventures at the conclusion of the episode as opposed to finding out more about the mysterious little girl and The Silents.

We also examine the character of Canton Everett Delaware III (Mark Sheppard) and ponder him making another appearance in Doctor Who down the line. But more importantly, we speculate on the importance of Amy Pond (Karen Gillan), and how significant her role will be during this series. All this and more on the latest TARDISblend!
