Doctor Who: Let's Kill Hitler

Doctor Who returned last week for the second half of its Series Six run and after the break we’ve got a review of the highly anticipated “Let’s Kill Hitler.”

Doctor Who

“Let’s Kill Hitler” makes my brain hurt.

Mind you, it’s a good hurt, but much of the discussion on this episode will have to fall under our spoilers section due to the massive amount of plot that occurs in this episode. Yet, there’s still plenty of non-spoiler stuff to talk about for those that have yet to watch it.

Series Six Part One

Release Date: July 19, 2011

The BBC release of the first half of Doctor Who Series 6 presents fans a chance to grab a hold of the episodes aired this year before the second half airs on August 27. With fascination with the Time Lord at an all time high in America since the days of Tom Baker, it makes sense that the BBC would officially release Series 6 Part 1 while the time is ripe.

Series 6 of Doctor Who does not kick off immediately after the previous adventures in Series 5. Instead, some time has passed, and companions Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) have been separated from the Doctor (Matt Smith) for an as of yet unexplained reason. The companions and River Song (Alex Kingston) obtain an invitation in TARDIS-blue envelopes to meet somewhere in the United States at a specific time.

Doctor Who

There’s only a few weeks left before Doctor Who returns to TV, and both BBC and BBC America are ramping up promotion in the lead up to the relaunch of Series 6. The BBC has released another new trailer, a follow-up to the first teaser previewed at SDCC. You can view the new trailer at the bottom of this post.

While it’s a short teaser, it does give fans a glimpse of a lot of new footage – though not too much to spoil any surprises along the way. There are a few more people wearing an eye patch, which adds to the mystery of new villain Madame Kovarian (Frances Barber).

We also get a few glimpses of companions Amy Pond (Karen Gillan), Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill), and River Song (Alex Kingston); and of course the Doctor himself, Matt Smith.

Also, a new promotional poster has been floating around the web lately, in the run-up to the return of the show. The design is fantastic, so I figured I would also include it in this post in its full-size glory.

The Pandorica OpensI’m going to post this with as little commentary as possible, for the video really truly does speak for itself. What you have at the bottom of this post, dear Geeks of Doom readers, is Matt Smith‘s monologue from the Doctor Who episode, The Pandorica Opens. It is performed by a young kindergartener. Yes, you read that correctly.

This little dude has better control of memorizing the lines from Doctor Who than I do, and he does it very well.

And for bonus points, he’s dressed up in costume as the Eleventh Doctor as well – complete with bow tie! Believe me, you’ll want to share this one with your friends who are fellow Doctor Who fans.

Check it out!

Doctor Who is certainly a show that often raises more questions than it answers and “A Good Man Goes to War” is a perfect example of this. Yet, when the series provides answers, it’s done in such a satisfying way that the various unanswered questions don’t matter. While “A Good Man Goes to War” poses many of these unanswered questions, there’s also a surprising amount of clarity. Before we dive into some of these queries, let’s take a look at the bulk of the episode.
