Star By Richard Clark Kickstarter Cover

I first met Richard Clark back in 2009 at New York Comic Con, before I even began writing for Geeks of Doom. He had a table in Artist Alley, and I was introduced to him by a close friend. I remember the incredibly detailed, beautiful artwork Clark had on display, and equally as important, I remember his personable, engaging, and fun demeanor. At the time, it didn’t seem like he had any comic book series’ of his own for purchase, but rather a plethora of commission work and writing done for major comic publishing companies, HBO, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and other various institutional clients. Quite the resume! If this man had an ongoing comic at the time, I would have snatched up a copy immediately!

Well, here we are in 2016, 7 years later, and Clark is now on Kickstarter launching what looks to be a very entertaining and thought-provoking 72-page trade paperback called Star, with some awesome rewards! With only 9 days left in the campaign and a little over $1k to go toward his $10k goal, I thought it would be a great idea to have a chat with Clark about the project’s past, present, and future.

Check out the interview and video below.

The review of Outlander 1.10 “By The Pricking Of My Thumbs” synopsis is coming up, but first, a recap of last week’s episode, Outlander 1.9.

Last week, may have been hard for some feminists to bear. Jaime (Sam Heughan) rescued Claire (Caitriona Balfe) from Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) at literally the point of no return (as far as rape goes). It wasn’t the almost rape that feminists would object to (although bad – yes). It was the spanking – and not the fun kind. Claire had been trying to return to the 1940s after seeing the stones of Craigh na Dun in the distance. She heard Frank (also Tobias Menzies) and he heard her through time, but she got captured. Jaime rescued her at the expense of danger to his men, after she deliberately disobeyed an order. They had a screaming fight, which was resolved, but he had to beat her with a belt on the ass. It was expected in his culture. She froze him out of bed in anger for a while. He loves her so much, he swore a blood oath he would never hurt her like that again. The last scene of that episode was equivalent to soft porn, but they did make up.

Let’s recap what’s come before for our lovely time traveling WWII nurse, and her love, the strapping Highlander, before reviewing last night’s episode. Spoiler alert!

Outlander is back! This time traveling, romantic, multiperiod series, based on Diana Galbadon’s multibook collection (she is currently working on book 9!), had us sighing in our plaids. When we last left our favorite couple way back in September, James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and Claire Elizabeth Beauchamp Randall Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) were in a bit of a pickle, as Claire had run away in an effort to get back to the magic stone formations of Craigh na Dun and back to her 1940s husband, Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies). And she almost made it. We had seen Frank try to find Claire and go to the other side of time at the rocks. They almost heard each other and found each other when she was captured by Black Jack Randall’s men. Black Jack had just readied himself to force himself on Claire when…

By Crom, finally a tale worthy of a king! King Conan: The Scarlet Citadel is a compilation of the four-issue mini-series of the same name. This is a story from Conan’s later years retold in glorious fashion. And for the first time we hear the tale directly from the Cimmerian himself.

We start the story with Conan relaxing on his throne as the King of Aquilonia. A young scribe, Pramis, is tasked with chronicling the exploits of the famous monarch for the kingdom’s libraries. Once convinced to share some of his history, Conan settles in to tell the story of his capture by the evil sorcerer, Tsotha-Lanti. Imprisoned beneath the Scarlet Citadel, the captured barbarian is quick to realize that he is not meant to survive his stay in the dungeon.

Doctor Who

This edition of the TARDISblend is a special one: a commentary track we’ve recorded for one of the episodes from Doctor Who Series 6. Arguably one of the best of the season, the Neil Gaiman-penned The Doctor’s Wife, is what we focus on for this edition. Joining us for the commentary are Jay Fowler, Andy Sorcini, and Anthony Ha.

The commentary sequencing is very simple. Cue up your version of The Doctor’s Wife, press play on the podcast. After the mini-intro, you’ll hear a sequence of four beeps. On the fourth beep, resume the playing of The Doctor’s Wife with the volume down low. We hope you enjoy it!
