$5 MP3 Album Deal: Pearl Jam ‘Vs.’

Pearl Jam Vs.

As part of Amazon’s monthly $5 MP3 album deals for September 2012, Pearl Jam‘s Vs. is on sale for only $5.

If you would like a physical copy of Vs. , the CD is available for only $6.99.

Vs. was Pearl Jam’s second studio album, recorded in 1993 at the luxurious The Site in Nicasio, California. Pressured to top – or at least parallel – the success of their debut album, Ten, the band at first thought the paradise-like setting of The Site would allow them to relax and let their creative juices flow. However, it had the opposite effect on singer Eddie Vedder, who was unnerved by all that comfort – so much so, that he actually drove to San Francisco and slept in his truck for a week. Hey, whatever makes the music happen, right? The result was this gem of an album, which includes the now-classic radio hits “Daughter,” “Dissident,” and “Elderly Woman Behind The Counter in a Small Town,” as well as the heavier hitting “Animal” and “Blood.”

The Guess Who

American Woman, by the classic rock group The Guess Who, is now available on MP3 format from Amazon this month for only $5.

Released in 1970, and spawning the number one smash hit title track, these Canuck musicians from the Great White North rock, roll, take it up several notches, and take it down several notches on American Woman. Led by the one-two punch of elastic voiced singer Burton Cummings and the snarling, barking dog guitar prowess of Randy Bachman, the album offers much variety in the hard rock/soft rock genre. Popular favorites “No Time” and the shimmy sway of “No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature” are here, but fans only weaned on a diet of the band’s greatest hits are urged to check out some of the lesser known tracks on the album, like “Proper Stranger,” “8:15,” and “Talisman” among others.

$5 MP3 Album Deal: The Smashing Pumpkins ‘Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

The Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

As part of Amazon’s monthly $5 MP3 album deals for August 2012, The Smashing PumpkinsMellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is on sale for only $5.

If you would like a physical copy of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, the CD is available for $16.99.

Released in 1995, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness was the third album by The Smashing Pumpkins. This ginormous double-album (the CD version comes on two discs and the vinyl on three records) runs the emotional gamut from melancholy soft rock slow jams to fierce rage-fueled speed metal. Frontman Billy Corgan was once quoted as saying Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness was meant to capture the turmoil and angst he’d felt as a teenager but couldn’t articulate until adulthood. Eh, I say buy it for the catchy radio hits you remember fondly, such as “Bullet With Butterfly Wings,” “Zero,” and “Tonight, Tonight,” but love it for the lesser known (but no less rockin’) tracks you had no idea even existed. At $5 for nearly two hours of great music, you really can’t get hurt.

Browse the main sale page to see the other 999 albums on sale for only $5 each in MP3 format through the end of August 2012.
