Interview: Author Blake Northcott On ‘The North Valley Grimoire’

Here at Geeks Of Doom, we love to interview folks of all walks of life. But few are as near and dear to us as internationally best-selling author Blake Northcott. As a matter of fact, she’s one of us from time to time! I have written several articles about her or her work, so I am more than familiar with everything she has accomplished. From her first book that I reviewed in 2011, Vs. Reality, to her more recent endeavors, such as writing Michael Turner’s Fathom, she has proven herself head and shoulders above the rest.
It is, therefore, my pleasure to be able to show you a bit about her and her newest book, The North Valley Grimoire! I was able to get a few answers (and a couple of evasions) from her that you might find interesting — I know I did. But then again, they were my questions, right? Check it all out here below and be sure to cruise over to her pages afterwards and preorder your copy!

We’re smack-dab in the middle of summer! Which means that a ton of gloriously geeky riches await us: San Diego Comic-Con is on the horizon, Guardians of the Galaxy is just a couple weeks away from hitting theaters, and soon after that, we’ll be treated to the Michael Bay version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Okay, so it’s not all good news.
But one thing is for certain: it’s Wednesday, which means it’s New Comic Book Day, which never fails to entertain. And this particular #NCBD is packed full of fan favorites and a few hidden gems.

Blake Northcott’s 3 Hottest #NCBD Picks For June 4, 2014

Summer is upon us! And if you’re like me, you’re no doubt spending time in the great outdoors, enjoying some fun in the sun: picnics, lemonade, playing beach volleyball while listening to Kenny Loggins and giving your shirtless friends elaborate high-fives…
Oh, who are we kidding? I’m inside, next to an air conditioner, waiting for my next trip to the comic book store. And later today when I arrive at my (hopefully air conditioned) destination, here are the top three comic books I plan on purchasing:

Blake Northcott’s 3 Hottest #NCBD Picks For October 30, 2013

My name is Blake Northcott, and I have a comic book addiction.
And Image Comics is to blame.
It seems like every Wednesday, an Image title forces me to jump in my car and race to the comic book store, shotgunning Red Bulls while ignoring stoplights and pedestrians along the way. The action/drama set in an all-too-realistic dystopian future, Lazarus, is on my pull list. Breakthrough artist of the year Jon ‘Roc’ Upchurch makes newcomer Rat Queens a monthly must-read. Matt Fraction’s Sex Criminals is one of the most unique books I’ve read in years. And Mark Millar’s Jupiter’s Legacy has become a personal obsession (with issue #3 being the single best issue of any comic I’ve read in 2013).
With that, here’s my 3 hottest New Comic Book Day picks for October 30, 2013.

Kickstarter Spotlight: Blake Northcott’s ‘Assault Or Attrition’
|
 |

Kickstarters abound! I seem to always preface my articles about them with some form of astonishment at how they seem to connect writers and artists to their fans in a much more intimate way – well not this time. This time, I work under the assumption that you know of Blake Northcott, be it through Facebook, Twitter, or what have you. This young lady is taking the comic-loving world by storm! And you are being given a chance here to help her success continue with a Kickstarter for her next book, Assault Or Attrition.
Now, if you aren’t familiar with this Canadian beauty and her nerd-tastic stories, then you are missing out. Her last book, Arena Mode, was a Mark Millar-endorsed project. Not only that, it was the most-funded project in Kickstarter’s ‘Publishing: Fiction’ category for 2013. And this new Kickstarter could easily surpass even that, since she has loads of artists from Marvel, DC, and Image Comics working on the interior art for her upcoming book! We are talking about Mark McKenna, Dave Johnson, Dan Panosian, and many others!

Coming Soon: Blake Northcott’s Newest Novel ‘Arena Mode’

Hold onto your hats and purses, folks…this is going to be one helluva ride. Blake Northcott (also known as ComicBookGrrl on Twitter) had some phenomenal success with a Kickstarter campaign to fund her new book, Arena Mode.
Her first two novels were met with praise from virtually every direction and even earned her several different bragging rights to boot! There’s not a lot for me to say that isn’t covered in her press release below, so let me just say this: don’t do yourself an injustice by not reading her works. They are fun, fast, and fantastic!

Vs. Reality
Book 1 in the Vs. Reality Series
Written by Blake Northcott
Kindle Edition
Smashwords
Price: $.99
Release date: July 25, 2011
Meet Donovan Cole, pseudo-MMA fighter. Once an undefeated competitor, he is now consistently losing. Armed with his fantasies/dreams of making it big, he can’t seem to grasp that he might not be destined for greatness. After yet another loss, his friend Todd “Jens” Jennum drags him off to an elitist club called Platinum…and that’s where the action begins.
Striking up a conversation with an obviously out-of-place beauty named Danica Davenport, he quickly finds himself on an adventure of which most people only dream. Dia (her prefered name) and Donovan find themselves squaring off against a couple of Collectors, Mr. Heinreich and Goto. As Dia unveils her power to help them escape, it just so happens that Donovan manifests his ability as well. The difference is, she forced hers to work whereas he just willed his to activate. Seeing him as a kindred spirit and obviously gifted akin to herself, Dia takes Donovan with her.
