Gamer Retaliates Over ‘Blizzard Real-ID’ By Posting Personal Information Of Activision’s CEO

Gamers have been in an uproar ever since Blizzard, developer of popular MMORPG World of Warcraft and the upcoming Starcraft II, decided to switch their forums over to a Real-ID system, which forces players to be identified by both their first and last name when they comment.

Most gamers argue that this switch is unnecessary and invites unintended invasion of privacy to the user if they chose to participate in forum discussion — and I’m hard pressed to agree. [NOTE: Having retired my pen name TechGOnzo almost a year ago, World of Warcraft is pretty much the only place I don’t use my real name on the Internet. The thought that immature gamer-rage comments could theoretically pop up in Google results when people search for me just never seemed all that appealing.]

At least one irate gamer is retaliating against the Real-ID change by publishing the personal information of Robert Kotick, CEO of Activision, of which Blizzard is a part.

Blizzard Entertainment launched a site for Cataclysm, the third expansion for their World of Warcraft MMO game, which features a preview of things to come.

Two new races will make their debut in this expansion: the former slaves of jungle trolls on the Isle of Kezan, the Goblin race and Worgen, a race of feral wolf-beasts whose origins remain steeped in mystery.

The site has new screenshots and information about the new races in regards to the two main factions in the game, Alliance and Horde.

World of Warcraft Patch 3.1.0 UlduarSo, as always, the face of World of Warcraft is ever changing. With this most recent patch we see some interesting ideas being implemented, some new areas opening up and as always, huge changes to every class within at least one talent specialization.

I’m not going over the changes to classes or professions or any of that (even though I would like to know which was the profession that got a 32 slot herb bags and how you obtain the right to make them)–You can find all those things on Wowhead, including up-to-date talent calculators. Instead, what I am going to go over is some of the Epicness of Ulduar, who exactly is Yogg-Saron is and why you should care & probably some other stuff as well.

First off, did anyone else see the sweet video that Blizzard posted on patch day? A lot of interesting things happen, including a brief clash. Yogg-Saron, the old God of death gets mentioned, and as luck would have it, he is a boss in Ulduar. It turns out the Titans forced all the old Gods underground and imprisoned them there, because killing them would have killed Azeroth. It is believed, due to what is said in the video, that Yogg is the source of corruption you see across much of Northrend, and is pretty much controlling everything you will face in Ulduar. Suffice to say he is as much an antagonist as Arthus or the Lich King in WoW:WotLK. Yogg’s voice can now even be heard whispering things to player who venture into the Ymirheim Saronite Mines and Whisper Gulch.

Deal: ‘World of Warcraft Battlechest’
space
Empress Eve   |  @   |
space

Today’s 15 Days 15 Deals Video Game Sale item of the day over at Amazon is the World of Warcraft Battlechest for $25.98 (down from $39.99).

  • Includes both the World of Warcraft base sku and the Burning Crusade expansion pack
  • Official Battle Chest strategy guides: one for Burning Crusade and one for World of Warcraft
  • Game manuals
  • WOW guest pass (14-day trial)
  • Blizzard catalog included

That’s a major deal considering that the World Of Warcraft Expansion: Burning Crusade alone is $21.99 (on sale from $29.99); World of Warcraft alone is $22.89; the World of Warcraft Master Guide is $16.49 (on sale from $24.99), and the World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Official Strategy Guide is $14.99. If you include the free 14-day trial pass — 60-day pass is $29.99, so my crude math estimates the 14 days would be about $14 — that brings this up to over $80 worth of stuff for $26!

Speaking of the game pass, if you’re getting this as a gift for someone, you can get them a World of Warcraft 60 Day Pre-Paid Time Card for $29.99 to get them going.
