Now here is a comic that breathes all new life into the lyrical line “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” In Klaus and the Crisis in Xmasville #1, our hero is determined to right wrongs by kicking the most ass possible. If you have read the previous comic then you know he is a stubborn immortal with a penchant for getting what he wants.

Klaus has no vested interest in the mortal world, for the most part. But when one of his favors is called in, he is forced to see that a century old enmity has been revived and that which he thought was finished, is in actuality not. But this is a can of worms that he is not quite initially prepared for, though that changes quickly.

Sisters of Sorrow #1 is possibly one of the most violent comics I have read in months. So obviously I loved it from start to finish, of course. You know that saying that starts with “Hell hath no fury…” and has been around longer than we can remember? Yeah, it’s not wrong and this comic is a perfect reflection of that same righteous anger.

I seldom like modern twists on what I would consider a classical piece of literature, even when I’m not a huge fan of the original work. There is something almost perverse about modifying something that old. However, I will be the first to admit that sometimes what I think is going to be a modification or a reboot is instead an invigorating chapter or work unto itself. Case in point, Victor LaValle’s Destroyer #2 is a spectacular sequence of events that do not in any way tarnish Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Never would I have thought this would entrance me so.

BOOM! Studios
Release Date: June 7, 2017
Cover Price: $3.99

I’m pretty much game for anything written by Cullen Bunn, therefore it should come as no shock that The Unsound #1 would make its way onto my desk. Always creepy and a little twisted, his horror stories tend to be dependable sources of entertainment and each comic series unique.

This one finds a nurse making her way to her first day at work at a mental institution. But as she makes her way there, we see the world outside is just as dark, twisted, and suffering as anything that could be inside the hospital. That is, until we see what is inside.
