Queen

The MP3 album deal of the day over at Amazon today is Queen‘s Greatest Hits II for only $3.99.

This hits album contains 17 great tunes from the classic rock band’s extensive back catalog. Since this is the second volume, songs like “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “We Will Rock You” aren’t on this one (that’s on Greatest Hits I), but you will get great tunes like “A Kind Of Magic,” “Under Pressure” (featuring David Bowie), “Who Wants To Live Forever,” “The Show Must Go On,” and “Radio Ga Ga,” all of which make the $4 price a steal for this album.

If you’d like a physical copy of Greatest Hits II, the CD is available for only $9.32. There’s also a 2-CD set, Queen: Greatest Hits I & II, that’s only $9.60.

Google logo Freddie Mercury

September 5 is the late singer Freddie Mercury‘s 65th birthday.

In honor of the occasion, Google has dedicated their home page to the Queen frontman with a custom Doodle logo that launches a video music tribute when clicked (you can watch the video here below).

Since it’s Labor Day (a major holiday) here in the United States on Monday, September 5, Mercury’s logo won’t appear on the U.S. home page until Tuesday, September 6. You can view it at the UK page, as well as Google’s other international sites.

Also, Queen guitarist Brian May did a guest entry about his friend and bandmate on the Google blog.

Lady Gaga Brian May MTV Video Music Awards 2011

The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards was broadcast live tonight, with Lady Gaga opening the show with a live performance of her song “You and I,” which had the singer dressed in her male 1950s greaser alter ego doing a lengthy opening monologue before breaking into the song.

While Lady Gaga’s music isn’t exactly my thing, I can’t deny she’s an excellent performer, always keeping it interesting. As I watched her do her song in her “Jo Calderone” persona, I was ultra-psyched when midway through the act she introduced Queen’s Brian May to the stage for a lead guitar solo.

Check out the 8-minute video here below, which contains the entire Jo Calderone monologue, as well as the full song with Brian May from the VMAs.
