Zootopia Header

Zootopia marks the return of Disney using animals who can walk and talk. While this isn’t be the first time we have seen such a film where no humans are involved, the film has a more contemporary feel to it, with the world of Zootopia drawing inspiration from real-world based architecture, vehicles, and government agencies like a police force and the DMV. The film comes from Bryon Howard (Tangled, Bolt) and Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph).

You have already seen what it takes to make a movie that has never been seen be-fur, what it takes to design an animal metropolis that has been designed by animals, figuring out the story, and the animation process. Now its time for some fun facts. Little fun tid bits that we learned with our fellow journalists during this fun event. Below are 50 things you need to know about Zootopia which includes how the directors and producers are continuing Disney’s legacy, the amount of research that went into the film, the new animation technology that was used in the film, the recording process, how many leaves are on a tree, and so much more. Check it all out below.

Zootopia Shakira Try Everything

It’s New Year’s Eve, but that isn’t stopping the news cycle from spinning. And for the Disney marketing team, they are going to change the way we see the day before we ring in the new year with a trailer from Zootopia to help celebrate “Zoo Year’s Eve.”

The studio has released a brand new trailer for the film, unlike the trailer that masqueraded as a clip of the two leads at the DMV – which actually worked if you think about it – this trailer is a mash up of new scenes, complimented with a brand new song “Try Everything,” written by singer-songwriter Sia and songwriting duo Stargate and performed by Grammy winner Shakira. Check out the new trailer and hear the song below.

Zootopia

Disney is bringing back the animated talking animal movie in a big way that you have never seen “be-fur.” Zootopia will bring a whole new meaning to the term Animal Kingdom, that’s because in this world, there are no humans, and the city of Zootopia was built by the animals themselves. While there are some modern day designed buildings, other neighborhoods and sectors of the city are inspired by the various climates like Sarhara Square, Tundra Town, and the Rain Forest District.

Geeks of Doom was invited to join a group of journalists to sit down and talk with the various creative members of the team that helped put Disney’s latest film together. We’ve already talked about how the screenplay gets put together, and will post our sit down with the film’s directors Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph) and Bryon Howard (Tangled, Bolt). But before we get to that, we present to you our talk with art director Matthias Lechner, who has been with the project for over three years and whose past credits include Escape From Planet Earth and Space Chimps; and Lance Summers, head of environment look development, whose past credits include Frozen. Check out how these two designed a believable animal world that was created by animals.

Disney’s ‘Zootopia’: Making A Movie That’s Never Been Seen “Be-Fur”

Zootopia

Disney’s upcoming animated Zootopia is a buddy cop comedy that sees the return of talking animals. But it is something unlike anything you have seen before. That’s because this film will feature anthropomorphic, bipedal animal characters in a modern world with no humans.

But directors Bryon Howard (Tangled, Bolt), co-director Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph), and producer Clark Spencer (Lilo and Stitch, Winnie The Pooh) didn’t just set out to make another generic talking animal film. They wanted to give Disney fans and audiences of all ages something substantial, something a person could believe in if a place like Zootopia actually existed.

So they set off to do research on almost everything from the way an animal moves all the way down to the individual strands of fur on their body. And when you combine that with a great story, and the classic Disney tradition, you get the makings of a film that is not only entertaining, but has the potential to be great.

Earlier this Fall, Geeks Of Doom was part of a group of journalists who were invited to see how a film like Zootopia comes together, the amount of research that is put into the film to design the look and feel of the characters and their surroundings, and what it takes to get the story just right. Below you will get to see what we learned about the 2016 film, the tour that we took on their temporary campus while the original animation studio underwent renovations, and much more.

‘Zootopia’ Trailer: Even Animals Hate Waiting At The DMV

Zootopia Header

Disney has released a new trailer for the upcoming film Zootopia from directors Bryon Howard (Bolt, Tangled) and Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph). The film is a play on the buddy cop genre that pits two mismatched characters together. So Disney took a spin on that, and paired a con artist fox named Nick Wilde and a rookie cop rabbit named Judy Hopps together. Normally these two would be predator and prey, but as you can see, Disney really wanted to have some fun with it. And like most buddy cop genre films, our characters have a very limited amount of time to solve a crime before either one of them suffers some sort of consequence whether its them losing their job or going to jail.

You may think the whole talking animal animated movies are played out, but believe me, Zootopia looks funny. And so far it hasn’t been disappointing, so give it a chance.

While Disney calls this a trailer, it is really a clip, and one that you might have seen if you have attended D23. Check it out below.
