Starz's Camelot - Sword in the Stone

King Arthur is going through a bit of a renaissance. The character will appear in three separate films in the next few years in Guy Richie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Michael Bay’s Transformers: The Last Knight, and Disney’s live-action reimagining of the The Sword in the Stone.

Each of these films will tell a different story of the legendary character, and being such a legend, his story also deserves to be told on the small screen. A new report confirms that Fox is currently developing a King Arthur procedural series called Camelot. Yup. TV is at that point of scraping the bottom of the barrel. More on the story below.

Starz Decides Not To Renew ‘Camelot’ For Season 2

This news was reported last week, but if 4th of July festivities kept you a bit out of the loop, Starz announced that they wouldn’t be renewing their original series, Camelot, for a second season.

The reasoning behind the decision is a mixture of things not working out, but the ratings don’t appear to be one of them…at least not primarily. After scoring big numbers in its premiere, ratings did dwindle a bit, but the last few episodes of the first season made an impressive showing and the finale brought in 1.5 million viewers to finish very strong.

One of the reasons the show has been canceled, however, is said to be scheduling conflicts with some of the actors in the cast, which included some top–tier talent like Eva Green and Joseph Fiennes.

First Peek At Epic New Starz King Arthur Series ‘Camelot’

It’s a fantastic time to be alive for those of us who feed off TV/movies/games that are set in a time where cars and technology and guns were nonexistent, and people survived by the blade of their sword, the gallop of their horse, and the light of a flame. This is especially true when it comes to TV, where these types of shows weren’t very common.

Now, in a time where the best TV series you can see are on par with (if not better than) the best Hollywood movies being made, we’re beginning to see many more titles in this genre. These types of shows can be found on channels like HBO, Showtime, and Starz, and they don’t restrict or censor their content. Almost anything goes, all is fair, and it’s some of the grittiest, graphic, and most realistic content we as viewers could ask for. It’s hard to even watch regular TV anymore!

Recent and current titles that have fit this mold include HBO’s Rome, Showtime’s The Tudors, and Starz’ Spartacus: Blood and Sand (as well as their mini-series, The Pillars of the Earth), and it does not end there. One of the most anticipated upcoming shows is Game of Thrones on HBO, which is based on George R.R. Martin’s popular A Song of Ice and Fire books. And Starz also has another on the way titled Camelot, which you can get your first good look at right here!

Click on over to the other side to read a synopsis and check out the first look video for the new Starz series, Camelot. Whether you love these types of shows or not, the show looks like it could be great and this preview is well-worth a few minutes of your time.

Sword in the Stone

Starz is one of the best channels on TV and On Demand for watching movies, but it looks like they’re more and more ready every day to really jump into the original series game with HBO and Showtime.

The network already has their show Party Down doing well, and their new series Spartacus: Blood and Sand is currently winning new fans every single week, and already has itself a second season ordered and set to begin production some time after the maiden season ends. Now, according to reports, Starz has greenlighted a new series called Camelot, which will be a new take on the tales of King Arthur.

Chris Chibnall, who has been a writer on the highly-popular shows Torchwood and Doctor Who, has been tapped as a writer for Camelot, and Graham King will produce along with Morgan O’Sullivan and Michael Hirst, who created Showtime’s The Tudors.
