| Bryan Fuller Out As ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Showrunner
When it was announced that Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Pushing Daisies) would be acting as showrunner for Star Trek Discovery, fans were excited at what he would bring to their beloved franchise. Since they got their first look at the show at SDCC and learned how the show would “explore stories from a different point of view,” fans have been eagerly awaiting the pilot, which will air on CBS, with subsequent episodes airing on the CBS All Access streaming platform. | ‘Star Trek: Discovery’: New Details Revealed Including Female Lead, Gay Character, Setting
A few weeks ago the first details on that new Star Trek series that will be shown on CBS’s new streaming service All Access were revealed at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, including the title, Star Trek: Discovery. Today at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, co-creator, showrunner, and executive producer Bryan Fuller discussed the show in further detail with reporters, revealing that Discovery will have a female lead character who will be a lieutenant commander instead of a captain. The reasoning behind this decision, in the words of The Hollywood Reporter’s Lesley Goldberg, was to allow the series “to explore stories from a different point of view.”

| Netflix Grabs Exclusive International ‘Star Trek’ Rights
CBS, Netflix, and Star Trek made more moves to take over the world today, as a gigantic (I-don’t-even-have-the-hyperbolic-skills-to-describe-how-big-this-deal-is) deal was announced giving Netflix the exclusive rights in 188 countries to air the new Star Trek series 24 hours after it premieres. | New ‘Star Trek’ TV Series Officially On The Way
The last time that a new episode of a Star Trek TV series was on the air was over a decade ago when Star Trek: Enterprise ended its fifth and final season. Whispers of a new TV show have come and gone from time to time, especially after J.J. Abrams successfully rebooted the movie franchise in 2009, but now a new series is officially on the way. It’s being reported that Star Trek movie writer and producer Alex Kurtzman is developing a new take on the beloved franchise for television, which he will also executive produce. But those of you excited about news like this have even more to be excited about: the franchise is already established enough that, instead of waiting for a pilot to be ordered and made and watched to decide if they want to give it a full series, this new show has already been given the full series order. There is, however, a bit of a catch.
