| Listen Now: Dakota Fanning Sings ‘Cherry Bomb’ On ‘Runaways’ Soundtrack |
 |
Last week, the details were released regarding The Runaways soundtrack, which includes some great ’70s tunes, as well as original versions and covers of Runaways songs [see New TV Spot, Pics & Soundtrack Details For “˜The Runaways’].
Now, one of the album’s tracks is streaming online for free at the official Runaways movie site. When you visit the site, you’ll immediately here “Cherry Bomb,” the band’s most popular song; in this case, it’s the movie version sung by Dakota Fanning, who stars in the upcoming film as singer Cherie Currie, with backing vocals by Kristen Stewart, who plays guitarist/singer Joan Jett. I’ve already read some trashing of Fanning for the song from the Twitter critics, but being the lifelong Runaways fan that I am, I think you should probably take my word above others — Fanning does a good job and this version is definitely enjoyable. I’ve listened to it probably 30 times already. I mean, c’mon, it’s ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb!

| New TV Spot, Pics & Soundtrack Details For ‘The Runaways’ [Updated] |
 |
The Runaways feature film is almost here, and we have a few details, images, and clips to tide you over for now.
First up, check out some new images here below from the film of Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett, Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie, and the rest of the cast. These are some great shots and I feel they do a great job of depicting the actresses as the rock and rolling bad girl musicians. [Updated: I’ve added a few more pictures, the last four below are new today from the movie’s official Facebook page.] Next, there’s a new TV spot for the film. It’s a quick one, but totally worth watching as there’s a few extra scenes in there that were not in the trailers. The more I see, the more I know I’m going to love this movie. Lastly, the all-important soundtrack! This is a biopic about an all-girl rock band from the 1970s, so not only is there the originals and covers of The Runaways‘ songs, as well as Joan Jett‘s “Don’t Abuse Me,” but also some good seventies tunage from the likes of The Sex Pistols, David Bowie, MC5, and the Sex Pistols. In the film, Stewart and Fanning do their own vocals, and let me tell you, as a life-long Runaways fan I think these ladies not only look the part, but they also sound it too! The Runaways Original Motion Picture Soundtrack CD hits stores on March 23, 2010 — a few days after the film’s March 19 release — but is available for pre-order right now! Also, ff you order the digital download version of the album from the Runaways Soundtrack site, you’ll get it on March 16, 2010! Check out the full soundtrack listing here below.

| Video: Cherie Currie Meets Joan Jett in ‘The Runaways’ + Teaser Poster If you don’t know by now, The Runaways are one of my favorite bands of all time, so you can imagine that I’m quite psyched for the upcoming movie based on the 1970s all-girl rock band.
The Runaways, directed by Floria Sigismondi, stars Twilight‘s Kristen Stewart as a teenage Joan Jett with Dakata Fanning playing the band’s lead singer Cherie Currie. A new clip from The Runaways has been released (watch it here below) which shows how the young Currie first met the totally badass Jett along with Runaways mastermind, manager Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon). Also debuting exclusively today over at MTV is the teaser poster for the film, which will be released in theaters on March 19, 2010. The Runaways will actually play first at the Sundance Film Festival this Sunday. If you’re not sure what the teaser poster means, it’s a nod to the band’s most popular tune “Cherry Bomb.”

| ‘The Runaways’ Movie Finds Distribution |
 |

The Runaways is a little independent film based on the 1970s rock band of the same name that featured Joan Jett, Cherie Currie, and Lita Ford. The movie stars young up-and-coming actresses Dakota Fanning (I Am Sam, Push) as Currie and Kristen Stewart (Panic Room, The Twilight Saga) as Jett. It will first debut next month at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, but it doesn’t need to worry about being picked up by a studio for distribution anymore; that part of the quest is now taken care of. It’s being reported that Bob Berney and Bill Pohlad‘s Apparition Films has officially acquired the rights to the film, and already has plans to release it on March 19, 2010. The Runaways is directed by relative newcomer Floria Sigismondi, who based the story on Cherie Currie’s book, Neon Angel: the Cherie Currie Story. The movie also stars Scout Taylor-Compton (Rob Zombie’s Halloween and Halloween II) as Lita Ford, Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development, Whip It) as Robin, Michael Shannon (Bug, Revolutionary Road) as Kim Fowley, and Tatum O’Neal (Paper Moon, Rescue Me) as Marie Harmon.
