The New Ghostbusters #3 is one hell of a summer movie told in comic book form. About two pages in, I wanted to grab some butter-drenched popcorn and Reese’s Pieces. How man times do I have to sing Erik Burnham‘s praises? Looks like at least once more. This guy is a FANTASTIC writer and I don’t know how he doesn’t work more than he does. When it comes to dialogue, he’s one of the best in the business right now, BAR NONE. I can hear the actors delivering his line as I read the pages, and it’s so natural, that the movie really does play in your head as you read the comic.

The New Ghostbusters #2 continues the adventures of a VERY different team of Ghostbusters. Thankfully, there’s no giant monkeys. Wow, Erik Burnham. Just wow. I can’t remember when a comic has been so consistently entertaining and not dropped in quality. And, I might add, keep its monthly schedule. This is FANTASTIC!!! I still can’t believe that month in and month out, I ACTUALLY laugh out loud at some of the gags and one-liners. Congratulations, Mr. Burnham. That never happens with any other book. This issue is no exception to that rule. Along with The New Ghostbusters, we also get a new supporting cast. Some of them are familiar, some not, but they’re all great. Just like last issue, we get the main adventure focusing on the new team, with a little bit of the classic Ghostbusters thrown in for good measure. Both stories are moved forward at a great pace, nothing rushed or forced, and everything comes to a great and suspenseful stopping point at the issues end.

The New Ghostbusters #1 ushers in a brand new era in professional paranormal elimination. Now, everyone know that they “Real” Ghostbusters are irreplaceable. So, how does the new team measure up? Let’s take a look… Erik Burnham manages to take (mostly) all new characters and make them into a brand new team of Ghostbusters with the same spirit (no pun intended) of the old team. Yes, they are TOTALLY different than the old team, but they still have humor, heart, and most of all, a lot of fun. Burnham pulls some VERY cool surprises out of thin air, like how the NYC brass deal with this new group of Ghostbusters, what they are doing to find and rescue Ray, Peter, Egon, and Winston, and also how they deal with the Ghostbusters perpetual pain in the neck, Walter Peck. It’s new, bold, refreshing, and yet familiar.

Hidden in Ghostbusters #16 is a honest to God, heartwarming romantic story. No, seriously. C’mon, I’m not joking!!! And can I just say that’s it a nice treat to have a Christmas issue of a comic? Because, it is. This month, Erik Burnham gives us an issue spotlighting Winston. We don’t get enough Winston. So, while this isn’t a SOLO tale by ANY means, it’s a nice issue that totally revolves around him. Don’t worry, he still gives us the patented Erik Burnham “meanwhile, he’s some things that are going to cause trouble down the line” moments. Back to this issue, though, it revolves around Winston and his girlfriend, a ghost from Winston’s past, and him being trapped alone in a creepy old house. For the first time that I can recall, we get some inner monologue, which is really nice and very entertaining. This issue also sets up some VERY cool stuff, that I can’t even imagine what it’s leading up to or how it’s going to pan out, but I’m really excited to see where this all goes. All in all, a really nice, charming and funny issue.

In many ways, Ghostbusters #15 is the culmination of fifteen consecutive issues of awesomeness. I mean it, readers, comics don’t get much more fun than this. While I can’t really say much about the plot of this issue without giving away major spoilers, let’s just say that Erik Burnham turns in a classic Ghostbusters tale. I really mean it, it’s like you’re reading what would be Ghostbusters 3. Of course, this version would be about 6 hours long. This issue has everything and everyone, including characters not seen in a LONG time. It’s all payoff in this issue. But… of course, there’s some things left dangling that can propel the book even further into greatness in future issues. This is one hell of a great issue!
